I'm a tiny bit ashamed to admit that my guns outnumber my wife's shoes. But at least we don't need a safe for those. |

CajunBass,
I remember when you were reducing your collection. It came almost as a shock to me. I have an easier solution; I give the overage guns to my sons. My youngest wrenched away the P210-4 that I gave to his brother when he entered med school. I just corrupted him by letting him hold my Hi Power and now he is eyeing my Python and Colt OMM. He dreams of having a gun room with a vault door when he is out of College. Maybe gun collecting is a heredetary desease? |

Spacecoast,
I know what you mean. It is a valid argument in the discussion why a man needs another gun: ladies shoes. |

When my wife tells me I don't need another gun I just mention all the shipping boxes from QVC arriving at the house. Then remind her that every one of them contained something she can now get pennies on the dollar for. Then inform her that non of my guns are valued less than I paid, and some many times more!
Of course she always has the nuclear option of telling me "well then, sell some of them"

So where does "good sense" come into the collecting hobby ? An S&W N frame can fire everything from light target loads to full power loads, a Dan Wesson Pistol Pac is four-or more-guns in one a full size CZ with a Kadet unit is 2 guns in one. Then we have 3, 4 and 5 screw S&Ws, Colts and Mark III Colts, CZ-27s with and without Waffenamt markings, etc.
If your conscience really is bothering you, just PM with your inventory and I will tell you which ones to send me c/o this forum. |

Not only that
It seems to suffer from nearly universal disdain. Modern loadings are quite useful. I purposefully got the SP-101 in .38 based on the easy recoil associated with that round.

Bill Jordan said the 38 Special is the most powerful round the average man (which I suspect includes most of us) can hope to truly master and I think there's a good reason it's been the target shooters' favorite for all these years.

My primary carry piece and my HD revolver are both 38spl. I have no concerns about its effectiveness.

I have some really nice ones and still have a few more on my mind and on my search and WTB lists. I keep telling myself I will pick a couple favorites and sell the rest, but so far I have only one duplicate for sale. There is something about separation anxiety there, when I think about selling something I do actually like and which has had significant gunsmithing enhancement invested, which I may not recover in resale. It seems so easy to just keep something, until the money runs out.

Crap. Just bagged a 1924 Colt Army Special with a 5" barrel stamped for the St. Louis PD. Getting out of hand.

Damn...
...I need to do some catch up. I only have 3 revolvers in .38spl, two 686+ Smiths (4" and 6") and a Ruger LCR. There is 4 .38s in the house if you include my wife's Taurus 85.
This might change soon as I have $900 burning a hole in my pocket and and considering a 686+ with a 2.5 or 3" bbl or perhaps an 8 shot 627 or R8. I'll get one of those if I don't stumble upon a 4" 617 to go with my 6" 617. |

Too many for good sense?
Possibly. But that's no reason to stop.

Yes, far too many. Box them up and send them to me.
I'll give them a loving, non abusive home. I only have... 7 (I think) .38 Specials. I have 8 .357 Magnums.
