Patridge front sight - pronunciation?

I was wondering...the Patridge style front sight -- commonly misspelled as "Partridge", like the bird -- what exactly is the proper pronunciation?

PAT-ridge?

PAY-tridge?

PAH-tridge?

Something else altogether?

Guess I never paid attention to the spelling of it. So it isn't "... and a pear tree" after all!

I could very well be wrong, but I always pronounce it "sour dough".

Yep and the Peabody Rifle was a dandy of a rifle too, but most know it as the Martini-Henry.

Another common misunderstanding is that a "Bull" barrel is called that because it is big and heavy. Nope. That kind of barrel was developed by a man named Freeman Bull.

While the Martini action is an improved version of the Peabody, no one could seriously call them the same gun. (In those British rifle names the first is the inventor of the action, the second the inventor of the rifling type.)
