Mfg Date on an H&A revolver?

I was wondering if anyone could help me find a date of manufacture for an old Hopkins and Allen revolver.

It is a 5 shot 38S&W marked "Double Action No. 6; Hopkins & Allen Arms Co Norwich Conn USA" on the top of the topstrap
It has a barrel about 2.5" in length.
It has NO caliber markings at all
It is not an XL model ... No. 6 designated the caliber in that line and it wasn't 38S&W
It has a serial number below 5000.
It's nickel plated (well, it's plated with some white metal, I'm assuming it's nickel).

I've heard that the values are pretty low on these, but I'd still like to know when it was made.

Thanks in advance,
Saands

edited to more accurately specify the markings ...
