If you are going to sneak in the kitchen and use your wife's toaster oven to powder coat bullets, make sure that she doesn't reset the tempurature after you walk out. Who would have thought s toaster oven set on 'Toast' would melt lead?
Well that's 100 beauties that will never fly down range. Hey, I wonder if she was trying to tell me something?

You probably shouldn't use that toaster oven anymore for food.

And yes, I think I'd try and find out if she was hunting at anything. Lol

Definitely don't use that toaster oven for food anymore. Go buy her a new one and move the one you contaminated to your shop.

Wow! If the lead didn't melt you would pretend nothing had happened and your wife would continue use that oven to prepare food?

The attached photo is after I coated several bullets with NEON Yellow.

Food stuffs and coating don't mix.

If these melted into a tray the lead may be captured, but just the same, I'd expect a certain amount of lead oxide to wind up on the inner surfaces of the oven. At the very least, a rigorous cleaning would be in order. If the bullets melted onto the heating elements, though, then there could be ongoing production of oxide with future operation, and then I'd look at replacing the oven with a new one for food purposes, for sure.

Lead melting aside, When you are baking/curing the powder coating in the oven, it is outgassing leaving a toxic residue all over the inside of your oven. Don't use the same oven for food preparation. You also want to do the curing process in a well ventilated area.

You wouldn't have wanted your wife and kids to eat out of it after powder coating anyway.

Go buy a new one and take that one out to the garage.

I got caught using kitchen stuff for my casting/reloading several years ago. Now it doesn't even cross my mind!

I appreciate the concern for my health and that of my wife. Having said that I am in my mid 60's, I grew up in a house painted with lead paint, I chased the DDT fogger trucks as a kid, I smoke, and I ride a motorcycle in Phoenix traffic.
I had planned to replace the toaster oven from the start and have done so. My interest was in pointing out that a toaster oven would actually get hot enough to melt lead. I will have to say that some of us are way too careful in our day to day lives. But, just to show that my heart is in the right place, come on over...I'll make toast.

Why replace a perfectly good oven?! Those college boys don't know what they are talking about. A little lead won't kill you. Like salt, lead is natural and adds flavor to food.

I saluted you for your dedication, but I am taking it back, as you have replaced the oven.

Awfully disappointed.

This is but one piece of inaccurate and horrible advice I see in this thread.

Lead is poisonous to the body. There is no clinically acceptable lead level. Lead, and any implement with which it comes into contact, has no place in the human body or in the kitchen.

If anyone is unsure, here is a summary of the hazards involved.
