260 remington savage model 12 LRP
Picked this baby up this summer... now what do i do with it
Damn thing could be used as a jack handle if needed, thats for sure! I set it up with an 20MOA base, topped with a sightron sIII 8-32x56. I picked up 3 bullets, the 95gr vmax, the 135gr amax and the 140gr berger VLD. Any ideas? Attached is some eye candy

Forget the 95 grn bullets. They have the BC of a brick. The beauty of the .264 bullet is the great BC you can get from long/heavy bullets. I started out with factory load 140s and they shot pretty good (right at one MOA). My buddy just worked up some handloads with 138 grn Hornady SPs but I've only popped off a couple of those just to check for pressure.
Find out what twist rate that barrel has. If it has the 1 in 9 that Remington uses, then 140 will probably be your upper limit. If has the 1 in 8 then you can use the really long/heavy 150's+. |

My 260 is not a target gun, it is a M77 MkII with a 22" barrel. I tried several loads for mine, but what it liked the best wat 129 grain Hornady Interlock over 46 grains Reloader 19. Was using once fired Remington brass and CCI 200 Primers. This shot at 2700 fps and grouped at 1moa.

Pet load for Ariska 38. 26" lilja barrel, timmeny trigger, richards microfit "wildcat" carlo walnut, Leo 6-18x40.
100gr.SMK, 42.5gr IMR4895, CCI primer, 2.790 OAL. LC 308 brass. NEAR MAX LOAD!!!! 3/4" 10 round groups @ 100yds. Average 3120 fps on chrony. Fired on Lead Sled. Remember that each rifle is different. If you want to use this powder and bullet, I suggest that you start at 39gr and work your way up.

What range(s) are you shooting?
Nice choice on the optic. What is that bullet in the last pic? The 95 V-max doesn't have a cannelure according to Hornady's website? (and you shouldn't use cannelured bullets for long range). http://www.hornady.com/store/6.5mm-.264-95-gr-V-MAX/ The Bergers are definitely nice...albeit pricey... My LR 7-08 drives tacks with the 162 AMax, and the 150 SMK, but I run with the 162 for the better BC at long range. I would most definitely include the 142 SMK in your load tests. https://www.sierrabullets.com/index....stock_num=1742 Last edited by tobnpr; January 11, 2013 at 01:57 PM. |

Here's mine. Also in .260. With Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP scope and 20 MOA rail.
At the moment I'm using 140gr Nosler Custom Competition with 40.0gr AR2209 and Lapua Cases and CCI primers. I also made a hunting load with 140gr Nosler accubond with the same amount of powder. Actually every load I made for this rifle has been outstandingly accurate - so much that it is difficult to find which one is best. Looking forward to lots of more load testing with it. And shooting out to long long range...(because I'm not going to be carrying it ! She's very heavy !) |

the last bullet is the 135gr amax
the 95gr vmax would only be used for short range groundhogs I have a 600yr range close that I would like to reach out to, I just need to get some more time on the bench to get it shooting right. My groups at the range the first time out were far from impressive (5" @ 200yd) using either of the two heavier bullets. The 95gr shot itsy bitsy groups. the barrel is 1 in 8 love the scope, its the target dot reticle I need to run down to the reloading room to gather the recipes that I've worked up to try out.

I forgot to add that I just picked up a neck sizing die, I only had a full length die. So I plan to use it from here out. I'm using the Nosler match brass
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/452...gton-box-of-50 I'm actually new to centerfire rifles for the most part. I've had a .17 remington that I've reloaded for a couple of years, but was always the same old recipe that shot fly's of paper (22.5gr RL15 with 25gr Bergers) I've never used a neck sizer or anything like that, but I'm highly anticipating the "slippery slope"

What is the number of that 135 AMax?
I have never seen one with a cannelure, and Hornady doesn't show one on their site in 6.5 or any other caliber at all... |

Nice to see shooters useing sightron optics. They get so little respect except buy the people that are not impressed by names only.. How does that vld work. Do you have set it deep in the case or you have enought throat and mag lenght to load it long. ??
Anyhow , nice long range rig . |

Buy, 3 cases, 3 primers and an ounce of powder... Then buy a set of die and load all 3 bullets! T. |

5 SI's, a SII and this SIII The VLD and the SMK all have plenty of throat and mag length to load them long... I'll have to grab my notepad, but my COL is LONG

I also took off this piece of ****
talk about a pain in the ass.. it's already got a safety.. why need a second one! its IMPOSSIBLE to make the gun fire while wearing gloves with that stupid trigger safety installed. You continually trip the "bump" safety. that being said, there is no bump safety when the safety is "off" but I'm ok with that, its a range rifle.

I hate the accuratrigger in general. That little piece of metal just muks them up. Nice to have the mag box and throat length for the longer bullets. Nice set up. Waiting to here what it will do at 400 yards??!!
