Colt Mk III 357...What's It Worth

I have been toying around the idea of dumping my 40 cal Glock to consolidate to 9mm. I have a guy wanting to trade me a LNIB Colt Mk III with extra grips even for my Glock with 100 rounds of ammo.

I wanted to sell my Glock to fund another purchase. What's the Colt worth??? I have little to no experience with revolvers.

Well, it's worth far more than your Glock is. I would say that you could ask $700 pretty easily. I know some will say more, but $700 with no problem if it is truly LNIB.

6"? 4"? Box/Papers?

Worth? To a LGS, maybe $500 on trade. To a private sale, $750+.

Some people (like me) love the pony and will ante up depending on condition, age, accessories, etc. Others... meh.

ETA. a Colt for a Glock? I'd do it. The 357 is closer to your 9mm family, just a little longer and noisier.

From a fiscal standpoint (I know many shy away from that brand of reasoning with guns) assuming the Colt is all original, after doing the trade, you could sell the Colt and have enough money to buy the same Glock 40 cal (22, 23 or 27 - they are all common) used, and have a large pct of money left over. IMO the guy with the Colt is moreso comparing the value of the Colt vs the cost of a NEW Glock in 40 cal, which at that point, it is much closer.

Also, if you miss the glock, you can find another one again, same model, same condition, but unless you want to spend $895 at a gun show for that Colt (what you will see people ask for them) you may not have a chance at another. Your trade is a no brainer.

If the Trooper Mark III condition is very good, the trade is a must do unless you have some special attachment to the Glock.

For me, I kind of like to own both.

I wont give up mine for nothing. Pictured below the Smith, in the pearl Jay Scott grips. Besides, Glocks are like Camaros in the 70's or A-holes today, everyone has one. Go with the classics. And a quick shot at gunbroker for Troopers in excellent condition 700-1200

It's interesting how the Mark III and Mark IV revolvers are finally getting some interest. For years, they were the llittle wanted step child of the Colt lineup. I have been interested in the 22 versions for years, but now the regular 357 mag versions are getting attention. The cost of new Ruger and S&W revolvers is probably pushing up the interest and values.

Smith has rosewood, the trooper has the Jay scott ...scott was the exclusive supplier to colt, so it is 'period correct' But it's not like the original grips were thrown away or anything.

The MKIII series debuted in 1969, but it was replaced by the MKV series in the early 1980s. There was no "MKIV" series in Colt revolvers. The MKV had the Colt V frame, and the MKIII had the Colt J frame. The MKV troopers were replaced by the King Cobra. MKV guns as a whole are scarce compared to MKIII revolvers. A MKV has been on my want list for sometime now, mostly just for the scarcity factor. Colts are also great investments, as most everyone knows.

I believe it's because the prices for all of the Colt "snake" guns,,,
Have gone completely out of the range of mortal folk.

A month ago I saw a truly beat up python sell for $1,100.00,,,
It needed immediate gunsmith help to revive it,,,
But it sold in that condition none-the-less.

I own a well used (but not abused) 4" Mk-III in .357 Mag,,,
I paid $125.00 for it back around 2008 or 2009,,,
I could easily get $600.00 for it now.

I also own a very nice (no blue wear) 6" Mk-III in .22 LR,,,
People laughed when I bought it for $750.00 in 2010,,,
But I recently turned down a firm $900.00 offer,,,
That offer stands so I can sell it at any time.

DA/SA Colts are like real estate,,,
No one is making any more of them,,,
So once the snakes are gone everything else goes up.

There's a very clean and tight Trooper (no mark) at a pawn shop right now,,,
The asking price is $750.00 which is too high for me to want it,,,
But I'll bet it doesn't last for another month before it sells.

If it weren't for people trying to collect,,,
I don't think many of the Colts would demand such prices.
