.223 rem. sierra Matchking 69 gr. HPBT powder suggestions? - Page 2

Most of the time for anything over 55 grain 223's I use H-4895 basicly on Hornady 75 grain A-Max with outstanding resuts sub MOA at 100 yards from a bolt gun.

Recently I started using IMR 8208 XBR for 60 grain V-Max's out of my AR and got great results.

There are a lot of good choices, these are mine.

Darkgael--- Bench rest and Will not mention sights as ,don't need to start another trash debate.

It's a 10-40x50 scope though.

4runner: I hear that OK. I thought, maybe, with all the talk about highpower and .223, etc., that you were doing in slinged up from prone position with irons.

No it's a home made wooden box with 2 v slots cut in it.Looks like hel- ,but works great.

My RRA Varminter really likes Varget and Benchmark for 69gr. During the Panic of 2008/2009 it was very difficult find Varget, so I tried Benchmark. I feel Benchmark is cleaner, and in the Midwest, easy to find. YRMV

I use Benchmark in my RRA with good results. 68 or 69 grn with 23.3 grns. @ about 2950fps.

I have a DDM4 with a 1:7 twist and I use 69gr SMKs. I have great Success with Varget and RL-15. Nothing else has ever come close for me.

I have been getting great results with 8208xbr useing a 69gn NCC.my charge is 24.0gn's with a CCI 450 primer all in Lapua brass.the C.O.A.L. is 2.290 and out to 300 yards I have been getting 1.5 inch 15 shot groups.but at 100 its just one ragged hole.so fare at 500 with bad wind I can get a 4-5 inch group with 15 shots.just need a good wind free day to see if the group will get any better at 500.

Using my 1:8 upper with 16" bbl. I have moa results with 23.5 gr of VVN135. I was told MOST AR's shoot well with that load. 69gr sierra bthp, LC brass, Federal match primers Loaded length to fit magazine.

i load the 69gr matchking with 24.5grs of varget or 25grs of cfe223. these are the most accurate loads with that bullet out of my ARs.

Funny bc Varget behind the 69gr didnt shoot worth a darn for me. Rx15 did a little better. H335 even faired better. Rfiles are like personalities. Every one is different

Re: Twist - I shoot 75 gr Hornady HTBT in a 1:9 twist Savage bolt gun and find it very accurate out to 400 yds (as far as I can shoot at my range). That said, I am not supposed to get that kind of result according to this chart:
"Overall, what twist rate is best? For varminting we like a 12-twist. The slower twist will give you a bit more velocity, and minimize the risk of jacket failure at high rpms. For general use, an 8-twist barrel will let you shoot the excellent 77gr and 80gr Sierra MatchKings and nearly all varieties of non-tracer milsurp ammo. We’d only select a 1:7″ or faster twist barrel if we had a need to shoot the 90gr VLDs.

I am happy I can shoot 75's out of my 1:9, but I do not plan to spend money to by 80 or 90's just to try and push my luck.
