Case neck stretch...........

Could use a little help on how much a 308 case neck can be stretched without causing fatigue or fracture of the cartridge.The rest of the case will not be altered. I'm doing some experimentation with a .35 cal, but think that may be too much expansion for that case to handle. Would be interested in any input that you may have.....

I have seen commercial 308 cases opened up to 358 Winchester, so it can be done. You may want to look into annealing the case necks, other folks on TFL can tell you about that.

I used to load 357 Herrett, and you start with 30-30 brass for that one. I used to lose a few to split necks until I switched to using 375 Winchester brass to form.

Will keep eyes peeled to coments from others as well.......I do have to agree with you, though, it is much easier to neck down in most cases.

FWIW, you can buy 358 Winchester brass, if that will work for what you are trying to do.
