.45 Caliber 180 Grain Semi-Wadcutter Short Bevel Base
I was just given very clean 1000 45, 180 Gr lead wadcutters. I have so many 230 gr lead bullets for ACP I was just wondering if anyone has loaded them in 45 long colt. These will be plinker rounds for the wife.
I know they are very short and the accuracy might suffer but I was wondering if anyone has and what powder did you use.

I do not load boolits that light for 45, but if I did, I would certainly start with Trailboss and Unique.

180 is not too light for 45. All 45 fire arms qualifications I have seen, including my own, were with 185 SWC. It also punches nice holes in paper targets. 180 should do fine in 45 ACP.

I shoot a lot of 200 grain LSWC's in my .45 Colt carbine with no trouble. 6.5 grains of Trail Boss is the standard max load for 200 to 230 grain bullets in the Colt and that's what I use for lead or plated SWC's. I have used Clays as well, but Trail Boss gives more consistent speeds and better accuracy.
Most manuals recommend crimping over the shoulder for SWC's in the Colt.

5.5 grains of trail boss under a 185 grain SWC is a nice mild load for the 45colt. I use it for beginners, and it is pretty accurate too. You can go up to 6.3 grains if needed.
