100° predicted for the air, 700° for the lead. Let's cast!
Saturday is here! And it's time to make some shiny projectiles. I got a really good fan and a few mosquito coils strategically placed around my casting table (plywood and blocks) set up in the shade, and a cooler full of bottled water nearby. Mama's new Peacemaker arrived yesterday (her 70th B'day was this week) and she wants a shoebox full of bullets!
And he's off!!!!

Boy I did! I refilled the pot 5 times and even ran completely out of HP alloy! I figure I made 45-50# of hollow points! It was a great marathon of a day, but my wrist is pretty sore from holding those brass molds all day. Whew!!!
Tomorrow I will get started on those boxes of wheel weights and make some new HP alloy ingots.

It has gone waaay beyond that already! I'm up to 12" blocks and I-beams!
(Oh, and I got a big rack of baby back ribs that are almost ready. Don't fret about the lost weight! I'm on it! haha) Here I have started with the first pan getting them sorted for culling and sizing. On the right are the NOE 432-265 SWC and left are the MiHec 45-270SAA.

Man, those are some great looking bullets! You think they were spinning fast when they were mounted on rims, just wait till they go for a ride down your barrel!

Casting at 100 degrees is a lot better than smelting at 100 degrees.
BTW...nice looking bullets. |

It rained last night. That means STEAM when the sun gets up! Who doesn't like 100° steam? haha.
Today is rifle bullet day, since I'm out of HP alloy. So..... out to the pot I go!!

I'm leaving out to go make a deal on trading for a S&W 15-3 this morning. Last night I auto tuned my new PID for the Pro-Melt and will bear the heat and cast up some Lyman 358-495 WC for the S&W.

I did brave the heat for a while. I made some 35 XCB bullets for the Whelen.
227 grains of leaden goodness!

Beagle, I really enjoy your postings for the neat photos. Your bullets always look more attractive than my bullets.

Thanks!
You should see the ones that go back in the pot. Of course 90% of my photos are after culling. The ones above in post #6 are as-cast, but usually I cull first.

Ah, so the truth comes out. Here I've been trying to be as good as the Master Beagle and always falling short. Now I know why!

You mean the ones hidden down there in that poison-ivy-covered dirt berm?
She says: "Come on in here and dig some bullits, Boy. . . . I'll mess you up, and good!!!"

Well, in this case the phrase "sacrifices must be made in the name of science" come to mind here..... I think I would probably root around a bit and see what I came up with.

Mike/TX, I've only ever heard something like that from girlfriends with a bad high heel shoe addiction, "beauty knows no pain."

Luckily for me poison ivy doesn't bother me. If it did I might as well sell off my properties.
