44 mag Mastercast Bullets 240 gr lswc

Has anybody loaded Mike's Mastercast (Carbondale IL) 240gr 44 cal lswc bullets for 44 mag using 10 gr of unique? I have read different start and max loads that vary greatly with lead bullets. I assume this is because of the difference in hardness (BHN) of the tested bullets. I'm looking for some good mid range 44 mag loads with little to no leading with Mike's Bullets. I'm not sure of the (BHN) of Mike's bullets (I left a message on his machine earlier), so I was wanting to keep them around 1000 fps. I also have some 2400 powder if by chance anyone has used his bullets with 2400 around 1000 fps.

Mr. Dawg,
I've loaded Mike's 240 grn bullets with both 10 grns of Unique and 15 to 18 grns of 2400 for many years. The one's loaded with Unique were consistent and accurate, recoil felt like a mid range 44 magnum load.
15 grains of 2400 was very similar in POA and POI as 10 grns of Unique as was the recoil.

I've been loading 18 grns of 2400, with a 240 LSWC for around 30 years and it's my favorite 44 mag load, it chronos at 1150 from a 4" barrel and 1250 from a 6". It's not a full power house 44 mag load but still lets you know you're firing a 44 magnum.

If I remember correctly, the load with 10 grns of Unique and 15 grns of 2400 chronographed right around 1050 fps with a 4" barrell .. but I can't find my notes right off hand ...

I forgot to add ...
I get more leading using 2400 than Unique but I usually fire around 200 rounds before I leave the range. I always have to clean lead out of the barrel when I get home but usually it's not too bad that it won't come out with a brass brush and some Hoppes .....

Dawg I've shot everything from range scrap to linotype thru my pistols. The only thing I've never shot was pure lead, but close. I used 1 part tin to 15 parts lead for hollow points a while back. None of these caused any leading to my bore that I could discern. It goes without saying that not many of these were mid to light loads either, most approached ,or were, at max. I would guess that you won't have any trouble with leading no matter what you shoot.

That's just a little lead rub. You get the same thing from copper jackets. Mostly just a bit of coloration from the bullet. Don't worry about it. 2400 ain't the cleanest burning powder in the world and leaves a lot more trash in the barrel than a little slug rub.

Thanks guys, that's just the info I was looking for. I have mostly loaded Trailboss for my plinking loads, and h-110/296 for my heavy loads. I was looking for something in between and these unique and 2400 loads sound good.

10.0gr Unique under a 240gr SWC is a classic and a good general purpose load. It's what I have my Dillon 650 set up for. Expect 1050-1100fps, depending on the sixgun. I don't like to run 2400 any less than 18.0gr because of unburnt powder. 19.0-20.0gr is usually the sweet spot.
