7.62x51 suppressor

How "quiet" is a FAL with a suppressor, when shooting standard 7.62 NATO ammo? If you could give me an example like "as loud as a 9mm (without suppressor)" or something similar that would be very helpful to give me an idea about the noise level. I'm trying to find out if it's even worth putting a suppressor on the FAL...

Like firing a .22lr with HV ammo, plus a touch of action noise. Generally, a HELL of a lot quieter than firing it without a silencer.

Yep. All you get is the supersonic crack of the bullet - really quite pleasant to shoot.

Well, I'm really glad to hear that. Thanks for answering my question so quickly I always wanted to have a suppressed handgun and rifle. I think I'll start with the FAL and get a suppressor for my Glock later on.

Any silencer that reduces muzzle blast by a factor of over 100 (+20 decibels) is well worth having on a rifle.

The couple I have heard in use greatly reduced the sound signature.
Not to where you would be comfortable shooting or even hanging around without ear protection, though. 20 dB off of 140 is still darned loud.

What can, and what gas setting do you have on your FAL to make it sound like a 22?

The one I heard had a 2007 model 762SD from AAC, don't know about the gas setting. Sounded like a HV 22lr plus action noise.
