Marine Magnum or 870 Police?

I am definately going to get ONE of these two models.

Which one should I get?

A Win-Win situation.

I'd got for the MM if living in a corrosive environment. The Police version gets the nod if unobtrusive is part of the job description.

I gotta go Marine Magnum. I hope to have one soon. It just looks so damn cool. Ok, I'm not ashamed to admit it astethics comes into play when I am buying some guns.

I've got to give another nod for the marine magnum. I got one and it's what I use for my duty shotgun. I've been through several shotgun classes with it and have had no problems whatsoever. Plus it does look awful purty!!!

Marine Magnum. I've had mine for about 5 years, and I absolutely love it. Never had a single problem with it... the finish is outstanding. And yes.. it is DAMN cool looking.

I am going against the grain here but I like my 870 Police models. I have two of them. It would be a shame to paint the Marine Magnum black to make it tactical!!!! But I think both have a lot going for them. If you were to purchase an 870P with mag. ext, parkerized finish and wood stock (my preferance) The price would be close enough not to be the deciding factor. Parked finish would have some advantage over blued as far as rust prevention but not as much as the marine finish. If you ever want to add a side sadle shell carrier the MM the forearm my be to long I don't know the answer on that point. If you haven't visited the Rem LE website you can see all the Police models there. You can't make a mistake going either way IMHO. Al in Md.

If you are buying a new MM you will be getting the safety lock as a factory requirement. If you go with the PM it won't have the keyed safety lock. I don't know if it matters to you or not but, I thought I'd throw that in. Great choice, by the way. .........Whit

Whit 520, where is this safety lock located on the newer MM's? Is it apart of the shotgun or something that is removable?

Yes I know about the cheesy PC safety on the Marine Magnum, and I absolutely HATE IT! I have that stupid lock on my newly acquired 870 Express. The MM is still one cool looking gun though .....

I'm leaning toward a Police model #4903- the one with an 18" barrel, 7 shot extension, bead sight, parkerized finish, and walnut stocks.

Something about that "classic" 870 look, without the PC crap!

The safety I speak of is a lockable safety right where the safety button has always been located on the 870's the only difference is there is a key that can lock the gun on safe. Without the key, in the locked position, the gun is rendered useless.

Well Mrs. Cslinger just bought me a brand new Marine Magnum for a wedding present. Yes I am now having a shotgun wedding. I was up in the air between the police model and the MM but the price difference was so small I figured I'd go with the better finish. Besides, as everybody else has said, it looks so damn cool.

I will let you know how it shoots when I am done fondling it and get to the range with it.

I don't know about the MM but the PM has a metal trigger housing. .......Whit

Triger housing should be phosphate on metal. Mine is.

MMs have the newer plastic trigger housing. PMs have the powder coated alloy trigger housing. Far as I know, only Timney makes steel trigger groups for Remington shotguns...cost more than the SG itself

You know I used to be kind of leary of plastic parts on anything mechanical, especially guns and cars but I have seen both plastic parts on cars and guns take abuse that render the metal item either disfigured or disfunctional.

I have steel frame guns, I have polymer frame guns and to be honest they are both tough as hell.

I guess after that speech my trigger housing will break tomorrow. I made a comment about me never having a SIG malfunction on me in a another post. So basically with Mr. Murphy the way he is, I am setting myself up for a rough range session.

I eyed plastic parts with a jaundiced eye, but realized there really weren't any breakages being reported.

Sounds like you have a great SO as well as a shotgun. Treat her like a queen!!

To me the difference is pretty much cosmetic.

I like my guns black so I prefer the PM. But it'd be nice to have both!

There's a sidesaddle carrier that holds 4 that works well with the standard Remington forearm. Tac-Star makes 'em.

For the benefits of its finish and as a thing of beauty, the MM is hard to resist. Anyway, I sure do like mine.

But overall I lean toward the PM for its traditional looks, metal trigger housing, and no lock.

I just checked out a MM at my favorite gun shop, and as far as I can tell, it is identical to the 870 Express except for the foreend, extended magazine, and of course the finish.

The 870 Police weapons on the other hand, have the Parkerized finish (they are available blue also), very nice WALNUT stocks (again, available with synthetic), steel trigger guard, and most importantly (to me anyway), no cheesy PC lock.

Looks like I'm going to be getting the Police model (#4903) as soon as my dealer can get one in.
