What was your very first handgun?

Mine was a Stoeger 22 Luger. Just appealed to me. Bought it new around 1969 and it was a real jam-o-matic. Finally gave up after the smith failed to correct it despite numerous attempts and the dealer refunded my money on another gun.

So a couple years ago I spotted this one on a table at a local show. Bagged it cheap and this one works perfectly. Maybe you CAN go home again.

A WW2 Remington Rand 1911A1 made in 1943. Paid 250.00 in 1987 the year I turned 21.

I bought this Ruger New Model r Single-Six convertible .22/.22magnum back in the late 70's. Very accurate and fun to shoot.

Mine was a Taurus revolver back in the '70s with a bent firing pin that a friend pointed at me and pulled the trigger. It was loaded and fortunately misfired. I kept the gun longer than the friend, but not much. I never shot that Taurus but maybe 50 rounds, so I don't really count it for much. Then I bought a Browning Hi Power which I feel was really my first. I couldn't even guess at how many rounds I put through it.

During college I used my Dad's SW 645 for any firearms related courses I had as well as general range usage. Couple of years after college, (undergrad), early to mid 90's, I finally bought my own gun. It was a SW 4506. Kept it a couple of years or so.

First center fire was a Browning high power, I was influenced by the movie Serpico.

My first gun was a Colt Single Action Army 38 Special my father bought on the day I was born. I remember being four years old and trying to manage the Colt with two hands well enough to hit beer cans at thirty feet.

In my teen years I learned that the frame was made in 1911 and that Colt only made twenty-five 38 Specials before WWII. Only years later when I could afford Colt reference books did I learn that my Colt was an early fifties factory rebuild and not rare.

Other children learned to dribble basketballs and put a spiral on a thrown football. For me it was the Colt.

Grew up shooting my grandfathers, H&R sportsman in .22lr, and .357 black hawk. After serving in the USMC and finally getting my permit I purchased a Beretta 92fs. Now I own both of my grandfathers revolvers as well

I'm old, it's old as well. With my father's permission and supervision my granddad gave me his High Standard HD Military when I was 14. 52 years ago!
this sixty something year old pistol still shoots great today!

Same here. Bought one in the early sixties while I was still serving time as an Air Policeman in the USAF. Wish I still had it; it'd be worth a whole lot more now than what I paid for it...

1972; Ruger Single Six convertible. Only had it for about a year. Left it with my Army Recruiter in Rock Springs, WY in March 1973 so he could send it to my Dad in KS. Never saw the Single Six or the recruiter again.

I've spent more than that just on cheap plated bullets that I shot out of that thing.

Long time gone. 1959, I had to choose between two and chose one just like this one at a local furniture store for $79.00, almost two weeks salary for me then (The original was taken in a burglary 20 years ago and I was lucky enough to find a replacement last year).

High Standard Military Citation (M107) made in Hamden

the other choice was a gorgeous little Browning SA-22 for $68 at Sears, Roebuck. One factor in the decision was Sears' requirement for a note from a parent which I was unable to supply easily. The furniture store just took my money.

The High Standard was the best choice. It helped me through college later. I had no idea at the time, at age 15, that I had purchased such a superior gun.

I bought a 5 shot Rossi .38 Special for $60 at a gunshow,. the bluing was worn completely off, and it looked like someone fashioned birds head-type grips for it out of beat up old plywood. But the thing shot .38s without a hitch, and I regret selling it. Although I did end up selling it for fifteen more dollars than I spent on it, which is a rarity in my world.

The first one was a hand me down from Grandpaw,
An Iver Johnson break top .32.
The first one I actually bought was a Ruger .22, semi-auto pistol.
Bought it used for $35.
Both long gone somewhere.

Mine was a S&W 5906, bought in 89. Great pistol but weighed a ton, so it wasn't the best to carry. Ended up trading it for a Glock 19 not too long after.

My first pistol was a Charter Arms .44 special bulldog pug. It was a blued snubnose.
I traded it when I got a smith 686 4" stainless.
I remember being able to see the flat based bullets of the .44 flying toward the target and thinking they were weak.

At the age of 24, I bought my first handgun. It was a High Standard Sport King LR with a 5.5" barrel. I quickly changed the plastic grips with checkered walnut grips with right thumb rest that had the HS logo in the grip. Today, others on the range asked me where I got it. It's not manufactured anymore, but it looks like the day I bought it. (Now 64 y/o)
