STI Trojan

After many months of debate (with myself) I settled on a STI Trojan 45 as my first 1911. I plan to shoot it in IDPA matches (I've never competed before).

I'd like to hear from anyone with one and especially any info on break in or modifications.

Thanks.

Congrats! I do not own any STI guns, but I am going to be getting a 1911 very soon.

as far as mods go, shoot it a few times in competition first and then see what you would like to add on after. On my 1911's i chose to extend the mag release, added a magwell on my kimber, had the trigger worked a bit, and also had the feed ramp polished for more reliable loading.

Break in i think is recommended at 200 rounds. But it should work great right out of the box. Buy Wilson Combat mags with the extended floorplate. You'll need atleast 3. They are the most reliable mags out there. And the gun should run perfect then. I have heard to keep a 1911 a little more lubed up during break in.

Thus far I've never needed months of debate to choose the right condom...thankfully.

Congrats on the STI. I own an Escort and adore it.

STI is a truly patriotic American gun maker. I'd go out of my way to support them.

I don't own one, but I've shot one that belongs to a local guy who's been cleaning-up in USPSA Single Stack with his. It's a .40, two-tone, and it shoots very nicely. The owner is quite a competitor - he's won our sanctioned IDPA match in three different divisions, along with a couple of USPSA area championships - has been shooting in competition since the '80s, and he thinks his Trojan is the best single stack pistol he's owned.

Great choice with the Trojan as it's one of the best under a grand. Look forward to some pics and a report.

The pictures don't do it justice. It is as tight as a Swiss clock. I added a magwell which required a new mainspring housing (putting the spring in its housing produced a string of profanities but finally I completed it). Range report to follow...

100 through it without a failure of any kind. Nothing is cooler than seeing the target come back with one big hole in the middle. Recoil was manageable (the undercut below the trigger gives a very high grip). I feel really good about it and would recommend Brazos Custom and their high performance package.

I took my STI Trojan 9mm to the range today for the first time. 200 trouble free rounds. I REALLY like this gun. Smooth and accurate!
