25-06 load help

I just got a 700 XCR II 25-06, I have shot some test loads thru it and it does not seem to like my old standby loads. I have used IMR 4350 with 115 to 120 gr bullets for some time but this new rifle just has not taken a liken to this combo. Just wondering if any one has any other loads dear to their heart they would like to share.

Great varmint loads: Hornady 75gn Vmax or Nosler silvertip 85gn with Reloader 19. Loads are close to max, look em up. I get 1/2 moa with Vmax.

I've had 2 rifles, a Ruger and a Winchester with a Shaw barrel and could not get either to shoot 120 or 117 bullets. They are 10 twist if I recall correctly. 100gr Pro-hunters are my go-to bullet with IMR-4350 or (the best) H-4831 SC when loading hunting rounds.

87 grain bullets have been the most accurate. I like Nosler or Sierra.

I have gotten the 115 Nosler to shoot at 1 1/4" at this point. However the 100gr is right at 1/2" (3shot). I have not tried 4831 as of yet but will as soon as I get to gun shop.
The rifle only has 50 rounds thru it so far, so it still just smoothing out the rifling Iam sure.

I like 100 gr bullets with the 25-06. I have been getting respectable groups using RE-22 and Sierra #1625. I too could never obtain good groups with anything else.

I shoot Hornady bullets in my Sendero from 87 SP's to 117 gr BTSP's. I use IMR 4831 with RP 9 1/2 primers. One thing to add is I experimented with overall lengths first finding out what the measurement was with the bullet seated to just touch the rifling. My rifle has a preference for my bullets to be seated .030" off the rifling. It tightened up my groups. I started with my best group seated to Hornady's recommended oal and then seated them from .010" to .050" off the rifling and groups tightened at .030". Just another thing to try.

RG1 I have found this rifle seems to have a short throat as when I set bullets to max lenght there touching the rifling. I had to back them up a bit. I am not a fan of seating bullets into the rifling but some folks are. I just never had any success doing that.

Is that the standard 24" tube? I'm surprised about the 4350, but I've always loved to shoot H450 and IMR 4831 about as much with either 100 gr. Ballistic Tips or 117 Gr. Hornady Interlocks in my old Ruger M77. Include the RL 19, and I would dare say that should cover any weight in the little quarter bore's lineup.

I don't seat to touching the rifling either. Some 25-06 rifles just prefer either heavy or only light weight bullets. I'd give IMR 4831 or Reloder 22 a try in your rifle.

Just got back from the range and it's really setting a pattern with bullet likes and dislikes. Two groups with 100 gr 9/16" however the 115 Nosler with a full charge of 4350 showed some good possibilty 1 1/8". thats 3 groups with that load and all are right in that size range.
I really want the 115 Nosler to shoot as it will be a deer load, I have not shot a deer with less then that bullet weight. My feeling has been the bullet jackets are to light on the 100 gr and below.

The 100gr Nosler Partition with IMR7828SSC with a mag Primer (you haven't mentioned primer type) would be an interesting combination for your rifle. I am currently using the last pound of IMR7828 that has worked well with my sons Model 70 Winchester I rebarreled to 25/06 a few years ago.. This will be a at or near 90% loading for a min charge of 53gr, compressed charge if you use the max charge of 57.3gr. IMR7828 is a excellent powder for 25/06, it will generate high velocity along with small groups in the 243Win too.. William

William I use CCI 200s with my IMR 4350. I am going to try some 7828 and 4831SC. I have to get to the store this week end, also am going to pick up a box of Nosler 110gr accubond and if they have it the Hornady 110 gr IB. I think that may be the ticket.
I have compared some targets and the 115 Nosler BT is right at 1" with 50.5 grains of 4350. Thats not bad for deer etc.

My chrony got shot this last week end a friend of mine didn't think it was reading right so he tried to shoot closer to the bottom of the V. He is gona replace it but needs a couple weeks to get the money.

Homesick I have a friend who uses a 25/06 as his primary deer rifle and used nothing but 100gr Nosler SP Solid Base bullets, it's too bad Nosler discontinued this bullet because it was a good one. I haven't tried any 110gr projectile in my sons rifle, although I see no reason why they wouldn't be a good choice for your new rifle. With the slow powders (4350 or slower or a ball powder) magnum primers would be a better choice. Good luck with the new rifle! William

For what it's worth, the Lyman 49th lists IMR4350 as their accuracy load for 2 out of 3 bullets from 100gr and under but not at all for the 3 listed over 100gr.

For accuracy loads, they show IMR7828 (49.5-55.0) for 110gr Nosler, H1000 (52.2-58.0) for 117gr Sierra and RX19 (48.0-53.5) for 120gr Hornady.

They're using Winchester primers and Remington brass.

Went to the range yesterday and tested a couple loads for my daughter's Savage 111 25-06, and well I'm convinced! (I'm having problems posting pics) I shot two five round groups, one with IMR 4350, and 85 grain Ballistic Tip from Nosler, and one with IMR 4831, same bullet. Both groups could be covered with a nickle, and the powder weights were identical.

I believe my Ruger No. 1's (factory heavy barrel) preferred load is Reloader 22 and Speer 120 gr. BTSP bullets with Winchester primers and Remington cases. I'll have to get out to my workshop to get the actual load data though and with the way the weather has been that might just be a couple of days before I do that!

Correction: Speer 120gr BTSP and a charge of 52gr of Reloader 22 yields a .470" 5 shot group at 100 yards with a muzzle velocity of 2910 fps (average for a 20 shot string) out of the 24" barrel.

I use Reloder 22 and 117 grain bullets, either Hornady SST or Sierra Gameking, depending on what's available. 50.0 grains and a standard WLR primer is my standard load, which isn't a max load, but pushes the bullets to 2900 fps and shoots under MOA in the four rifles in my family. I could probably tighten those groups some by tweaking each load to the individual rifle, but I never know which grandkid is going to need ammo at any given time. We have two Ruger Mod 77s and two Savage Axis and they all shoot this load just fine.

25/06?

Both of my 25/06's prefer IMR4831 with all bullet weights. My heavy barrel loves Sierra 90gr Blitz Kings and my sporter weight is sub-MOA with 100gr
Partitions.
I tried IMR4350,RL19, and RL22. As I said before both preferred IMR4831.

I'm going to try both loads again, then adjust OAL and test, then load the winner and shoot twenty letting the barrel cool between shots,,, which is my downside because I really have zero patients...

I shoot a Browning A bolt in 25-06. My two best loads are a Sierra 117 Game King over RL 22 and a Nosler 115 NBT over IMR 4831.
I used the Sierra on a dozen deer this season from fifty to just a shade under 400 yds and all were within feet of where I shot them.

I did find a very accurate load with 110 Nosler Accubond / RL 22 / Rem brass/ CCI 200 primers. I spoke to service rep from Nosler he told me their max load was 53.5 grains with this powder at just shy of 3200 FPS. My rifle shoots that load under 1" and 3127 FPS. I used it on deer last fall and it did very well.
