SIG Custom Shop

Sent my P226 into SIG for the E2 grip and Short Reset Trigger conversions Monday before last and received it back this Tuesday.
Pretty fast turn around.
They did a fine job of swapping out parts and sent the original parts back with the pistol.
I think these two conversions have made a noticable improvement in my SIG but it still isn't my favorite full sized sidearm. That honor belongs to my SA XDm9.
Hard to beat that pistol IMO.

The E2 conversion, do they use your same receiver...or do Sig swap it out with a different receiver?

Same receiver, but they must swap out a few internal parts to make room for the smaller one piece grip.

I have been thinking about having my 226 converted because I have always thought the standard 226 was slightly large for my grip. Was it a marked improvement?

It's a noticable improvement. I too think the original grip is a tad large.
I had no trouble with the original grip in single action mode but found the trigger reach just a tiny bit long in double action which I found was causing me to rotate the pistol slightly to the right to get a better purchase on the trigger in DA mode.
I thought this could be a problem in a panic situation ,ergo, the conversion.
This has solved my complaint.

I just read in another thread:

Did you ship your receiver to Sig through the mail?

SIG sent a UPS label and sent it back via UPS last time I sent one in.

I paid SIG by credit card over the telephone and they emailed me a FEDEX shipping label.
They wanted the entire pistol minus the magazines.
I dropped it off at a FEDEX hub and FEDEX delivered it directly back to me at home.
The shipping both ways cost $55.

I went from an original e2 SIG P226 and changed it to normal grips on my own. Without anything other than the screws and the grips. No parts to change.

Maybe you can do it from e2 to standard but not standard to e2?

Oh well...also, the trigger...They didn't change the actual trigger. It's a lot slimmer on the SRT trigger. Unless they found a way to use the original trigger and give it a lighter pull by changing some internal parts such as the mainspring and such.

I'll send you a pic when I get home if you'd like of my SIG e2.

You like your XD more than your SIG?! That's funny. I felt the opposite. Sold the XD.

I carry my Glock 19 24/7 but like my SIG 226 more. I carried my SIG for a few years. 3,000 rounds later I still love her like it's our honeymoon. Just feel the G19 suits my CCW needs better.

All in all I'm really happy you had a fast turn around time and that you like how your SIG came out! If you ever want to see it..PM me

Yeah, the standard P226 two piece grips will fit over the smaller E2 internal parts but the smaller E2 one piece grip will not fit over the larger standard P226 internals.

SIG actually has two different SRTs, the Short Reset Trigger, which uses the standard trigger with internal changes to reduce the trigger reset distance and the Short Reach Trigger (reduced reach trigger), which is a much slimmer trigger designed to reduce the trigger reach.
I ordered the Short Reset Trigger which enhances rapid fire capability while retaining the original external trigger.

SIG SHORT RESET TRIGGER
(SRT) P
Retrofit your P220, P225, P226, P228, P229, P239 and P245 with the new SIG SAUER Short Resetâ„¢ (SRT) sear and safety lever parts. The SRT
reduces the trigger reset travel by about 60%. The SRT upgrade is perfect for both competition and combat shooters who want to reduce their
follow up shot times. Price includes parts and labor. Original parts returned with your firearm.
$ 99.95

REDUCED-REACH OR STANDARD
TRIGGER INSTALLATION (STI) P & SP
SIG SAUER pistols have shipped with a 'standard' trigger and more recently with a 'reduced-reach or short' trigger. You can fit the pistol to your
hand with either a reduced-reach short trigger if you have the standard trigger and it is hard to reach the trigger or a standard trigger if you have the
reduced-reach short trigger and it feels too close for your trigger finger. (Excludes P232/P230, P238, P938, P290, Mosquito, 1911-22, SAO
models and older P220 models that have the trigger that is 7.9mm (0.311") wide. If the trigger is 9.46mm (0.372") wide then it can be done.)
$ 34.95

It's the XDm and it feels more natural in my hands and has a consistant and light DAO trigger pull instead of the DA/SA of my P226.

It is a marked difference.

I installed the SRT and E2 on my 1986 P226 with the help of the guide on ARF.com. It was very easy.

Between the two kits, pretty much everything inside is now new (I installed new pins, etc while it was apart). I think I spent about $100 total.

Me too! I am 90% sure that I am ready to get the E2 grip installed on my P226.

Sorry for the digression, but just so there is no misunderstanding or anything illegal occurs. The U.S. Postal Service can NOT be used by a non-FFL individual to ship a handgun (long guns are OK), even back to the manufacturer for repairs.

That Federal Law refers to individuals using a common carrier like UPS or Fed-Ex to ship for repairs without having to use an FFL.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but does the reduced length trigger have a short reset?

I wasn't aware of the E2 and reduced length trigger options. My short hands might very well take a liking to such a setup.

Haha!!! Just incase they're any Mr. Magoo's out there.

I actually have really big hands. So that's why I removed the e2 for standard grips.

I don't know if the Short Reset Trigger is available along with the Reduced Reach Trigger but I don't see why not.
A call to SIG's Custom Shop will provide a quick answer, they're very helpful.

Well, I just purchased the E2 grip kit from Top gun supply. I will let you know how the installation goes, which looks pretty straight forward and simple.

Finally installed the new E2 grips and accompanying decocking lever. Installation took five minutes from start to finish...including taking the before/after pictures.
