Big Handed shooter. I mean BIG
I have a buddy interested in getting into handgun shooting, with an eye towards eventual CCW.
I know there are some "big hands" threads going but....this guy is just shy of 7' tall (yes), about 375 lbs, with hands like a freakin baseball glove. His pinky ring hangs loose on my thumb, and I'm not skinny by any stretch. Considering this, would there be any recommendations as to what line of weapon I can direct him to? The only thing I have are some full size Springfield XDs and I'm not sure they're going to cut the mustard. |

You might have him look at the H&K USP line.

I'd go with full size guns in a big cartridge... things like the Glock 21, which are pretty big and blocky for most people.

Another .45ACP to look at would be the CZ 97B. A lot of people will warn those with small hands to stay away from the 97, so it will probably fit him well. Can be had for $650-700.

Make sure he looks and holds all of them. If his fingers are that big are they going to fit into the trigger guard opening????? Sounds like your buddy has some huge lunch grabbers.

Maybe:
1. HK USP. 2. Double stack 1911 with long trigger and thick grips. |

If he ever decides he wants to try a fullsize, revolver he should give Herrett's a look. If they can fit a sixgun to this big Cajun, I expect they can take care of your friend.
Otherwise, he should simply go to the gun shop and handle autos until he finds something that works for him.

I've always thought the Beretta 92fs 9mm or 96 40 S&W models were kinda big . The cool thing about a guy that big is . He can have a full size gun and it should still conceal well on a frame that big . You can always go with the desert eagle , that things a monster

Hehe. I looked at that desert eagle today. For a conversation piece it might be fun but as a real world firearm...? I don't know. Screams penis replacement to me.
I'm headed out to lunch with him shortly and plan to take him to the local Fin, Feather, Fur, or whatever the heck it's called, so he can try some on. |

Id go with some think like a S&W x-frame revolver. those 500 magnums are pretty slick stuff.
For a semiautomatic I would go with one of the automags out there. Desert Eagle, L.A.R., Coonan, Wildey just to name a few.

Id like to see him try to shot an NAA 22short mini revolver. It would look like he was holding a tooth pick!

He may just try doing what my Father in law did. He has an old revolver and he figured the grips were too small for his massive hands. So he took a 2x4 and made his own grips. His grips are about 1-2" longer then the normal grips or frame for the gun. It's actually rather comical, but after he smoothed, sanded, cut some lines for gripping and stained it it's not TOO bad.
So that could work for if he wants a revolver. If he wants a semi auto get a normal big semi auto and then get an extended magazine for it and make a spacer. Mainly joking with the stuff above, but I would agree with a double stack 1911 or Beretta 92/96. Those are the biggest normal guns I know of. Other then that I would say go the biggest shop he can find and ask for "The biggest handgun ya got." |

Sig 226 ....or one of the Sig 226 X-Fives ( especially the L-1 X Five model ) .....or a S&W N frame revolver ...like a model 27 in .357 mag ...or even a full sized 1911 - fits a lot of big hands comfortably - 5" especially with a mag well...
Lots of choices .... |

Full size models, don't even bother with Conceal Carry sizes unless he plans on getting frustrated. I have pretty large hands myself and i just skip the small gun craze all-together.

XDm 9s have long grips. Throwing the big backstrap on that or an M&P9 might work.
The Beretta 92FS is a great suggestion. If he'll be shooting often, go 9mm.

The Ruger Redhawk has a big grip and long reach trigger. Perfect for big hands.

My hands are pretty large so I find that arched mainspring housings work best for me with 1911s. Sometimes, even more hand-filling grips help. But for your friend, I might suggest a Desert Eagle in .50 AE.

Beretta 92/96 with the Beretta wood grips make for a big grip.

The Glock 21 non-sf has one of the biggest grips I've tried. My 97b is big too but only front to back. Width isn't any different than a normal 75. The 92 I shot felt like holding a 2x4.

The Beretta 92 is the largest grip I have ever wrapped my hand around, the compact version is not much smaller.
