How to prevent rust underneath grips?

I just ordered Hogue wrap-around grips for the Kimber. I'd like to apply some kind of rust-preventative underneath the grips to prevent rusting. What should I use? Rig? Wax? How long will it last?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Put a coat of CLP on frame, let set for at least 24 hours, so it has time to set into metal. Remove excess, apply any wax containing as much carnauba as is available. Re-coat with wax every couple of months, if needed.
