300 WSM

Anybody have any favorite loads? I have been loading Barnes Tipped TSX BT in 150 grains and am having trouble keeping the neck tension. I use the same bullets in my 308 Win and love them, but for some reason, they aren't holding anymore in my 300 WSM. Actually I was using the regular TSX and the Tipped ones have different groove locations and I think that is what is causing the problem.

So, I am looking for a different hunting bullet for whitetail deer that could be used in both a 300 WSM and 308 Win. as I don't want to have two different bullets in stock.

Thanks.

How many times has your WSM brass been reloaded? It's been known to get work hardened much quicker than other cartridges. I anneal mine after 3-4 loadings. I don't think it's a bullet problem , more like a brass problem.

I load for three 300 WSMs. All three do extremely well with 180gr Partitions and Ramshot Hunter. MRP with the 165 Partitions is outstanding as well.

Which bullet...

Q-Tip HKY--I've been having xlnt results recently with Nosler Accubonds as a hunting bullet. In .30 caliber, IMHO, a 165 grain bullet is perfect, so that's what I'd recommend.

Cheaper than Barnes bullets, and Nosler Partitions, too, FWIW.

My results...

Q-tip Hky--FWIW: Shot a nubbin buck this year w/ an 8mm Accubond...I have NEVER seen a deer's engine room more thoroughly wrecked.

My 300WSM load

As always reduce by 10% and work up this load in a different rifle but the load is as follows:

Winchester Brass
2.95 OAL
180grain Nosler Accubond
70 grains IMR 7828SSC (SSC is important as the short cut fits in the case better)
CCI magnum rifle primers

Shoots about .4" groups at 100 yards out of both my M70 and Savage Weather Warrior. The M70 shoots them at 3150fps, the Savage at 3200fps. I haven't found any load that will outperform them in 300WSM.
