Boring out a devastator mold
I was thinking of boring out a devastator hollow point mould to make it a plain base, eliminating the need for gas checks.
Other then having to work up a new load due to the heavier bullet weight does anyone think there may be some unforseen risks involved? |

If you have a lathe or a mill and indicators so you can center a cavity in perfectly, then single point it out to diameter with a boring bar, I don't see an issue. If you are talking about using a drill press, I think it will be difficult to get adequate concentricity of the cast bullet. Even a couple or three thousandths of offset can spoil accuracy.
Also, I'd point out that a gas check bullet typically fires just fine with no gas check if you get it into the case straight, so why not maintain the versatility of being able to use one or not? If it worries you, another possibility is to use poly wads cut from 1/16" LDPE sheet with a sharpened case mouth.
