Winchester Ranger 230gr JHP Gel Test Results





Finished up the testing of the Winchester Ranger 230gr 45 ACP (#RA45T) round. Here are the conditions and results.

Test conditions:
-Springfield Armory TRP with 5'' barre
-Test rounds fired from 10 feet
-"FBI spec" Clear Ballistics gel block
-4 layers of denim

Results:
-878 fps, 394 ft/lbs energy
-14'' of penetration

Good performance. The Winchester LEO rep has been doing demonstrations for local PDs in my area and they are really pushing the .45 acp +P. I don't see the need for +P but I wonder how your test would do with a shorter barrel. Most departments in the area are carrying the shorter M&P 45 or G21. Thanks again for sharing the info.

Noreaster,

I got 876 fps avg from a 3.5" Kahr CW45 using the subject Ranger RA45T ammo. Six shots, 5 paces from the muzzle and the temp was 65 deg F.

Paul105 that is a really good result from such a short barrel. Good enough for expansion and penetration.
