BHP 9mm - Crack in barrel ?

Hello,

I have a BHP MK3 with about 1000 rnds through it. It appears as if the barrel is cracked. I dont know if I just now noticed this or if it just appreared. Let me tell you where it is and you tell me if this is normal asthetics or not.

On the "serialized portion", that you see through the slide, there appears to be a "crack" or "line" that goes around the entire part. It is perfectly straight and runs through where the "4th from the last" serial number is....

Any thoughts on this??

Thanks

I would take it to your smith and have it checked out befor shooting it any more. It could just be a maching mark, or a deaster wateing to happen.

KnoxVol, many HP bbls are 2 piece. The line you see isn't a crack it's the meeting line of the two parts. They are silversoldered together. George

Thank you so much for your response George. I thought it might be by design as it is perfectly straight. Does this not present a danger considering the pressures subjected to that area of the barrel?

Thanks again!

A lot of barrel makers use the 2 piece design as it`s easier to machine that way..use your HP, it`s just fine.......

No, the two-piece construction presents no danger. Have fun!

Did 60s vintage highpowers have 2 piece barrels George?

Was this always the design of the highpower barrels?

It's not always the design now. I've received probably 1/2 a dozen HP bbls this year and I don't remember how many but some of them were one piece. I always thought that was the original design but I don't know for sure. George
