Double Feed in 39A
Lads, any idea what is causing the Marlin to occassionally try and shove two rounds in the magazine. I thought this was caused by soft action use, but that has not fiexed it. There seems to be a round on top of another one. Ideas?

Check the cartridge cutoff.
This is the small, flat bar attached to the lower left receiver, just behind the magazine tube. When the action is operated, this lever moves outward and releases a single cartridge. If it's worn, or impacted with dirt and bullet lube, it can fail to operate properly and release two or even more cartridges. Here's a link to the Gun Parts Corporation site that shows the Marlin 39. The cartridge cutoff is part #13. http://www.e-gunparts.com/productsch...20LATE%20MODEL |

DfA,
I too had the double feed problem in my 39A. And yes, it was the cartridge cutoff. I pulled the spring out and thoroughly cleaned it and the pocket it sits in. Mine had taken a bit of set too. The back of it should be completely flat but mine had a bit of an arch. I carefully straightened it to flat again. That was nearly a year ago and I haven't had a problem since. dean |
