Does this P22 look like fun? UPDATE i bought a M&P 15-22 rifle.
Post 10 has the updated info.
Im thinking of doing a P22 build with the 5" barrel and scope bridge like this one shown in the the pic,but with a different and better optics. That looks too bulky. This one is more like what id want,or just a simple 30mm red dot. http://kiei.biz/inc/sdetail/3601 I know many will say buy something else,im already considering that and know my options.I just want to know what people think of this. I have a 5 inch P22. On its own, its a fun gun to shoot.
I think the scope is overkill though. IMO, the gun simply isn't accurate enough to benefit from such accessory. |

I hate to be one that would recomed something else but I think you should get an SP22. For a little bit and I mean a little bit more you get a way better and more accurate platform for optics than the P22.

No. I like my P22 like my women. Uncomplicated.

Make sure you like the P22
before spending serious bucks to trick it out. I know several people who have and like this pistol, but for me the feel in my hands is not good. I would not consider one for myself because of that, but YMMV.

I like the P22, they are fun little plinkers. However, IMO the red dot is a little much.

If that's what you want to do why not? I think the P22 is a fun plinker...while others hate it. Have fun!

I was not impressed with the P22. The firing pin on my wife's broke after... 20 rounds. Unless I'm doing competition shooting I'd prefer iron sights versus a red dot on a handgun any day.

WOW 10 no's and ZERO yes's! Thats a pretty big resounding message.
Most people didn't like the S&W .22a with a cheap red dot i just sold and i shot some excellent groups for someone lacking in skills as i am.It was a great trigger teacher. 2" groups at 50' with bulk ammo shooting rested off on my gun case. Im no way going into competitive shooting, just fun plinking at the range. I looked at every .22 known to most people here and nothing made me say wow, except a $500 Buckmark. Its cheaper at Bud's tho,i need to buy local and use a layaway plan. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ducts_id/21172 This looked fun also at $499 GSG-5PK This is on sale for $419 and this is the last day. M&P 15-22 Im going shopping again today and see what strikes me,but i dont feel optimistic. At this point im leaning towards the EXPENSIVE Buckmark or the M&P 15-22 They also have the Chiappa 1911 .22 for $250 which got great reviews on Gunblast. But i wasnt a gun with optics as my eyes are only good to 30' with bare sights on any gun. Last edited by DasFriek; December 30, 2009 at 10:38 AM. |

The deed is done,kinda anyways.Today i put a S&W M&P 15-22 in layaway for $419.
Even at $500 which was more than i wanted to spend, neither the MK3 or Buckmark tactical felt "special" or fun.Altho both were beautiful guns, especially the Ruger that was Stainless with a 7" fluted barrel and stainless frame also. The GSG's i liked but accessories seemed rather expensive and neither was set up for optics out of the box.Plus at $549 and $599 were a bit more than i wanted to pay. It may be a month or 2 before i get it in my hands since i have my Mossberg 500SPX to pay off this week |

The only thing I would change on this would be a gemtech suppressor instead of the compensator at the end. Now that would be much more fun.

It looks Tacti-kool, but not accurate enough to worry about the "long shot". I would save my money and buy a silencer - now that is money well spent!

I vote no on the red dot, yes for the silencer. A silencer improves the shooting experience more than a scope for a pistol like the P-22.
Made on lathe myself. $20 plus the $200 tax. Ranb |

The P-22 is a fun little plinker and after the first 500rds or so, mine has been dead reliable with everything I've fed it. It just ain't a target pistol. The red dot mount is too flexible and the pistol too inaccurate for the red dot to be worth the trouble. IMHO, it's also mounted a little too high and throws off the balance significantly. GREAT platform for a suppressor though, all it needs is a thread adapter.
