Serious Challenge with a Springer XDs

Springfield XD-S in .45 ACP w/3.3" barrel

cliffs:
Opened the box last night, bought "used" (could find no evidence of it having been fired) with two, extended mags.
Stripped, cleaned, and lubed.

Before the match I shot 14 rnds of WWB, 230gr FMJ at 25yds.
No problems

Match: semi-IDPA (no covering garments, 3 stages, no timed reloads)
6 shots timed
Used the factory holster, mag pouch, and extended mags.

Shot 48 rnds during the match.

Placed 11th out of 22, but grouped 90% of my misses. Shot the match more as a function test.

Functioned perfectly (except for two of MY mistakes...more later)

After the match I went from the action range to the pistol range and set up two targets: 25yd paper on stand and 50yd 8" steel swinger.
First shots at the 8" steel swinger at 50yds - 3 out of 5 hits

At 25yds I shot 230gr WWB FMJ and my 230gr LRN over 4.6gr of Win231.

Total rounds: 150

Here's the ONLY problem I encountered:

If I didn't get a FIRM, HIGH grip I wouldn't disengage the grip safety. Long, thin, boney hands and not much meat in the web beside my thumb.

That is MY fault, not the gun's.

Function: perfect
Accuracy: exceptional
Ergonomics: jury's still out

Best 5 shot group of 230gr WWB at 25yds - about 4"- 5"

Re: Serious Challenge with a Springer XDs

Good write up. And really if you throw that one flyer out, that best group is even better.

Nice review. Nice shooting too especially if that is your first time out with it.

My back went out yesterday so carrying the Sig 229 or a 1911 is a no-go, too heavy. With its light weight, the XDs might be the ticket. Will have to make do with the PPS (with underpowered 9mm).

Have large lean hands so the grip safety might be the problem, as typically I prefer to grasp pistols with a lower hold.

Thanks for the report, looks like an excellent CCW carry, especially for CCW distances (1-7 yards).

I'm not recommending this, but, the grip safety can be easily disabled if you find it becomes a problem.

The "terror" resulting from disabling the grip safety seems to be somewhat hysterical in that there are and have been, many autos that do not have one. Myself, I have never had the grip safety on any of my 1911's ever not work as intended...I am not even aware of them. My favorite (and only at this time) 9MM, a Browning H.P., does not have one of those little rascals and I do not live in fear of an AD with it.

Question

If I may ask, how much did you give for that used XDs with two 7 rounders?

Installed the smaller grip insert and shot another 25 through it this morning.

I failed to fully compress the grip safety once.

in solution mode now....disabling it is on the table

and, Pico, I just I might show you a nekkid pic of my wife, but I like to keep my gun bidness private.

a serious challenge with a Springfield XDS

I have two of the XDS single stacks .45's..Okay, correction, my wife and I both carry them. I have two extended mags, but the ones in your picture look way longer that the ones I have..Would you advise the capacity of these extended mags???Any manufacturer data on them?? Looks really nice!

They're 7 round mags, but I have no other info on them.

And they work.

I would check out Powder River Precision.

This may solve your problem.

Thanks. I saw their grip safety extension so another $70 out of the reloading supply budget might become necessary.

No problem

Just asking. Not sure what the resale is on the XD pistols. Wondering if it is comparable to Glock.

Shoot 'em straight...

Pico.

Pretty good, depending on the area and the gun. The xdm and xds seem to hold value better than the plain XD. People around this way(NC) seem to think a gen 2 Glock that's been run hard is still worth $450+. For that money, I'd rather have an XD subcompact. I'd like to own one in every size shape and variation. I shoot them way better than anything else and have yet to see one fail.

Doc, that's too personal. Just tell us whether she shaves or not.
