The Atlantic magazine has a pretty extraordinary collection of photos posted online from Timothy O'Sullivan, a famous Civil War photographer. These photos document government expeditions of the American West and are just phenomenal to look at.

Pretty impressive. I was surprised at how many spots I could name before the description came up. I guess decades of cruising the west has paid off after all.
