Glock 35 plus a aftermarket 9mm barrel and your choice of trigger & connector.

Why the 35 instead of the 34?
Versatility - With a 10 second barrel swap it can run 9mm, its native 40S&W, 357Sig and a few others.

as you can see below, for paper punching, my favorites in that price range are the cz 75b and the sti spartan v 9mm.

I say those are good choices, but I'll also toss in a used Hi-Power or the Tanfoglio Witness Elite (or the Tanfoglio Stock version, which may pass your $700 ceiling).

CZ 75. Hard to find better, hard to find someone who has used one that says anything other than praise for the 75.. Mine is a compact alloy frame BD.

CZ 75B! One the most accurate hand guns I have fired.

If your in need of a rail for light, laser or combo then the SP01 or Phantom.

It's also IMO a great looking gun to boot!

Actually I meant an FN Hi-Power. Considering the pistols already owned, I thought a centerfire pistol was in order.

Beretta 92A1

CZ-75B (if you have $700 to spend, grab a stainless one)

The new Caracal F looks pretty cool

Sig 229 9mm to be friends with your 226?

Should have mentioned I have a 92.

Like the idea of the CZ 75B. For a long time I did not care for the look of the small slide, however love the idea of extra thumb space on the frame.

Suggestions on 75B, BD, Omega?

CZ 75B is a good idea plus you can buy a .22 conversion kit and have two pistols in one!

Get the original configuration....75B

Got to love the classic lines of the original 75B. It ranks right there with the Browning Hi-power and the 1911 in the classic elegant look.

The polished stainless 75B looks to be about as sexy as a handgun is gonna get

EAA/Tanfoglio Witness Match. Looks great. Shoots better.

Beretta 92fs. Got one, love it, great gun.
CZ SP01, or other CZ75 variant. Don't have one, want one, on this years short list!

if you are look at new guns then the P226 and USP are completely out of your price range, used MIGHT be able to slip in at the upper end but not very easily.

I would pick the Springfield XDM, higher end version of the XD with longer sight radius, higher ammo cap and different grip textures. I prefer the XDM to the XD but both are very good if all you want is a range toy.

the M&P is a good gun coming in under your budget but the triggers are a like them or hate them deal. I personally hate them, can't ever feel when they reset so I am forced to slap the trigger just to keep from squeezing on an unset trigger.

glocks are good but Gen 4s and current production Gen 3s have recurring problems that culminate to make an overall product that falls short of "perfection". I'm usually pretty accurate with them but never liked the grip size or angles.

I have no experience with walthers so I can't comment but they have almost as much of a cult following as sigs and glocks so they can't be all bad.

I'm a CZ fan.

Skip the 75b, it is an old design. The SP-01 is the updated model with many improvements including flared magwell, extended mag and slide release, light rail, higher capacity magazine, night sights (I think), ambi safety.

That being said, despite being smaller the P01 is perfectly suitable for just about any role you ask of it. I have large hands and the ergos are perfect.

9mm for centerfire paper punching:
1. STI Spartan V
2. EAA Witness Elite Match
3. Walther PPQ
4. HK USP (used)
=====
The Sig P220 in 9mm (used - Swiss trade ins) maybe something.

I'd also go CZ SP-01 for range and home defense. P-01 or PCR if you are going to carry it sometimes. 75B if you find a deal, but the SP-01 has superior ergos to the 75B.

I second Chris in VA and Pilot! Get the SP-01. Just bought one after months of researching and omg its awesome! It does come with stock tritium (meprolight) night sights, which is nice. Feels sooooooooooo nice in my hands (and everyone elses whos tried it hands ).

It does feel much better ergonomically than the 75B.

2. M&P
3. XD
4. Glock

For punching paper nothing beats a SA revolver, but for semiautos I would get a CZ 75

Walther PPQ all day every day of the week. Best striker trigger on the market.

Just to be different, an HK P7 also has a buttery smooth trigger. Only drawback is the gas system gets a little warm.
