New toy

Just picked up a 500 combo deal..got the slug barrel and field w. 3 chokes and scope for 320 Best I could do looking around. Now Ive never shot a gun with a scope on it and being a shotgun it sits high up, the stock has a nice head rest thing on it too so my eye lines right up..But, i need advice on sighting in the scope, any pointers?

Take it to your local shop and have them "bore sight" it for you. Mine does it for free if you bought either gun or scope or both from them... If they know you as a "customer" than they still do it free on guns they didn't sell...

If you buy some slugs from them they would surely do it free.

If rifled buy them high dollar $abot $lugs...

Take it to the range (in my case, anywhere wooded) and fire 2 round groups. Adjust as needed.
For sabot slugs, 75-100 yards. For regular slugs, 50-60 is plenty to get sighted in.

I bought it at dicks sporting goods so I highly doubt they will do anything for free, what is bore sighting exactly? And I got a few packs of the new remington sabots to play with but dont want to waste 20 shots of 2.50$ rounds a pop

dicks will mount and boresight a scope free of charge if you bought the gun or the scope there. you will still need to get and shoot to zero in so buy several different types of sabots/slugs to see what works best for you and your gun...you may find out you can shoot less expensive ammo effectively..good luck...btw, where are you located? the 500 combos go for $249 here in Ohio

also make sure they set the scope to match YOUR shooting set up...or else you will get their relief distance and could end in disaster

Boresighting is done with a laser either in the muzzle or in the form of a shell and they do an initial POA/POI adjustment. It then needs fine tuned but it gets you closer to reduce ammo costs.

Your dealer may do it free if you buy ammo for the gun from them... Is it rifled? If so, you may spend as much as $50.00 getting it tuned in and boresighting is a 2-5 minute job that usually costs as little as 5 bucks.

While boresighting can get you "on paper" at your typical range, it is NOT a substitute for actually practicing and finalizing sighting in.

As mentioned try several brands to see what works best in your gun.

Sounds like a great deal. I'll have to check out Dick's also since previously I was only considering Big 5 Sports ($280 for 28" and 18 1/2" combo - no chokes or scope, non-rifled barrels)
