Have two of them, one is the target version w/adjustable rear sights. Both run flawlessly. Considering the scarcity of .22 ammo, you may have shot up more dollars in ammo than the gun is worth.

I have one that works well with ammo it likes. It doesn't like cheapy Remington Thunderbolts. They are fun guns to shoot.

Bought one in 1971 after comparing it with the Erma .22lr. Got the Stoeger because of their hype about owning the rights to the Luger name. Should have got the Erma because my Stoeger had multiple failures to eject per magazine no matter what ammo I used. Sent it back to Stoeger with two magazines and it came back with crude filing around the chamber. Still multiple FTEs, often 10 out of 10. It actually was more reliable held upside down!

I got rid of it and bought a real WWII Luger and a Ruger Mark I .22lr. Glad to hear someone got a good one!

I have one that is picky about ammo as well, but with the right ammo its a very nice shooter.

The toggle release does work.

Yes, the toggle last shot "hold open" on this Stoeger Luger does release and unlock when a loaded magazine is inserted.
I couldn't get it to work at the range because I simply wasn't pulling it back with enough force. The locked toggle can only be pulled back a fraction of an inch which is required to unlock & release the hold open mechanism.
When I tried it again just now the toggle did indeed release.
Thanks to KBob on RFC for letting me know.
