Park Rangers in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument armed with M14s

Is the M14 the standard issue for U.S. Park Rangers?

I wonder if they really have M14s or they have M1As and are calling them M14s.

They are most likely DRMO rifles from the LESO.

Police departments around here used to have a couple of them.

They are the real thing.

They probably have a couple of stashes of M16A1s as well.

They are only on "loan" though. They have to be given back and/or can be recalled by the government at any time.

Not sure how accurate that reporting is, its yahoo news, and because a man mentioned "m14" doesnt make it entirly so, there are plenty of knife makers out there ut ever hear a Marine refer to anything with an edge as anything but a K-Bar?

On the other hand its a pretty.good.choice for a park ranger who mihht be suddenly faced with a threat from any kind of natural predator, as well as haveing to make more ranged shots for various reasons,.plus they are a federal agency so access to surplus M14s woukd be easy. I know our conservation agents here normal carry a heavier rifle then the normal M4 type or Mini 14. And we dont have many natural predators that would be much threat to a person

Organ Pipe is probably one of the more dangerous locales for LEOs than most other places inside the US.

The M14/M1A rifle is currently the .30 caliber rifle authorized in policy for the NPS. Mgmt must approve the rifle's issue on a park by park basis. Not every unit has them. The ones I have examined are all M14's, semi only, mfg's were TRW, Win, and Springfield. An M1A would be an option but would still need to go through the justification/approval process w/ management. Policy rewrite will phase the M14 out in the future, with the AR-10 taking their place with the same approval system. The Ar-10 mimics the M16/M4 (which is nearly universal each Ranger issue) manual and the change seems warranted.

When I was handling M14's in the early 70's, none of them had the selector intact. They were M14's but only capable of semiauto fire. Other armouries may have had selectfire rifles but not where I was.

Obviously, they weren't all shipped into Afghanistan.

Nice to hear someone is using them for what they are made to do. Beat's the alternative, we'll never see them thru DCM.

I don't know about the NPS but some of the guys in the Wyoming Highway Patrol have M14s (Not M1As).

My neighbor and the other Trooper had them, I gave them some Ball Ammo I had left over from my NG days. My neighbor did trade his for a M16 though.

I still think AZ needs to get creative with their hunting seasons, that would help keep our borders safe.

I don't see a photo of the rifles, so I would imagine they meant the M16, not M14s.

The Park LE Rangers have semi-autos as well, not full-autos.
