454 cassul & 45 lc
i load for 454 cassul and am buying brass for 45lc, can i use the 454 dies for 45 or is the case wall thicker on 454, or some other reason, 45lc is the parent case so i figure i just screw die in less to make up for difference in case length.
any advice would be appreciated. |

The 45 colt is .480 and the 454 is .4775. They may work but I use different dies for both.

The only problem with loading .45 Colt with .454 dies is that you won't be able to get crimp after bullet seating.........the brass is too short (or the die is too long).

I'm Confused
The Casull is .1 inches longer. The mouth and head measure the same as as the Colt, .480. They shoot the same bullets. Why couldn't you screw down the die and crimp like you would a .38spl/357mag?

The die will hit the shell holder before it can reach the case mouth.
You CAN load .454 with .45 Colt dies, just not the other way around unless you shorten the crimping die. |
