AR-15 Rifle Reloading Questions

I was able to get my hands on a brand new Windham Ar-15 "HBC". The barrel that came on it has a 1 to 9 twist. I know its almost impossible to get primers and plated bullets right now so I figure I would pick your brains for recipes. I read a lot about how the barrels come in different twists and that its more accurate with a certain gr bullet. Is there any truth to that and what is recommended for mine? Other than than I would be mostly using this rifle for target shooting and possibly coyotes. Thanks

The Hornady 68gr or Sierra 69gr match bullet work well with a 1-9 twist. Bullets down to 50 gr. are OK also. http://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/223rem/

Your twist will stabilize most bullets save for the heavies. If you are not going to shoot long range, start off with a 52 or 53 gr match bullet.

The 16 inch 1 in 9 twist barrels are marginal for 68/69 grainers. They don't keyhole but they do not shoot that well either. I bet the 60 grain Sierra hollowpoint will do well, as will the 60 grain Vmax. For coyotes, from personal experience the 64 gr WW PP will do the hammer of Thor on them. They used to be cheap, I still have a sealed 2000 round pack I paid $150 for eons ago.

+1 Shoot up to 62 or 63 grain bullets with a 1/9, heavier than that you'll likely need a faster twist

60 - 70 gr bullet(Hdy, Sierra, Nosler)
Benchmark, Tac or CFE223
CCI #41 primers

Should get you what you want.

Correction. The other posts make a good point about short barrels. The 68 & 69 gr bullet would be getting less RPM out of a short 16" barrel. Its bullet length that makes the difference, not so much the weight.
