.308 and .223/5.56 brass cost

I was wondering what is a good price for once fired .308 brass. The headstamp is lake city and I believe it's all the same lot. It's been tumbled only. Also what about .223/5.56 that's not necessarily the same lot but all lake city or FC. I was thinking about clearing out my stockpile to drum up some money for other purchases but am not sure what it's going for at the moment. Quantity would be 500 count bags. Also would it be worth prepping a bit? Perhaps size and swage? I hope this is the right place for this since it is a question. First time posting.

Welcome to the forum.

Once-fired gets sold as-is, tumbled and crimp removed, and fully prepped (roll sized, primer pocket crimp removed, trimmed to length and chamfered, and tumbled clean). New, unfired Lake City brass is about $200/1000, and fully processed once-fired is $160 at Top Brass (not worth the difference not to buy it new, IMHO). Partially processed (tumbled and de-crimped) is $89/1000 (Jeff Bartlett's price), and unprocessed is about $69/1000 from the same source. I have seen some outfits sell the unprocessed once-fired for about half that, but the supply isn't steady.

Thanks for the welcome and quick response! Were your quotes for 5.56 or .308?

5.56 mm NATO. The sources I mentioned have both, so you can compare them yourself, here:

I know you basically got your question answered but I'll also add this: Try finding a gun range to get on out in a rural area, they really arent expensive and most of the time you'll have brass coming out your ears in no time. My range fee is $74.00 year and the first time I went I probably found about $60.00 worth of brass. Make sure the range does not keep the brass, thats why get on a small one even if you have to drive a short drive from the house. Just my two cents anyhow.

That's a good way to get brass IF you are there when it's fired and are certain that it is once fired. Otherwise you will be picking up a lot of unserviceable brass.

I just bought 1500 of 5.56 once fired for $63 shipped. it was all LC . It was not processed at all. My friend just bought 900 rds. 308 all LC for $90 shipped from the same person. Like someone posted above this was from a person and not a business so the supply has limits. I found it in the reloading components section on another forum. So I had the tumbler running for a few days cleaning them then, resizing and decapping and I just finished swagging the primer pockets yesterday (the dillon 600 works great). I will probably trim em as I need em unless some streak of motivation hits me. So it all comes down to how much work you want to put in them.
