Geez, how did you know my anniversary is coming up!?!? That is so nice of you to have that done for me. I would have preferred Pugs instead of hunting dogs but it is the thought that counts.

+1, B-E-A-Utiful

Hopefully I'll own a gun someday with engraving that looks half that good.

Fantastic! I have no idea on pricing for engraving, is the $20,000 because it is so detailed AND on a shotgun?

Gorgeous work.

A Winchester 21. When done it will be about $30-35K.

Here are some words from Jim, I know he is lurking here:

"The oak leaves on the fences took an entire day (and that was after I laid them out). The pattern comes from an original 21 pattern, and the scrolls match the size and spacing. However, the Kusmits were about third generation from Ulrich, and I simply could not do work as poorly as they did. They used a very simple open English scroll. This scroll is from an original Webley single shot rifle that I duplicated for a guy who started building them a few years ago. I liked the pattern enough that I have used it a couple of times, and I think goes well here. The pattern had a couple of standing birds on the receiver bottom, and a pointer and setter on the sides. The triggerguard also had a dog's head of similar size and fashion."

The curves are so smooth a cut, I first thought they were done by a power engraver (ie:Gravermiester).....photos are a little deceiving, but upon closer inspection it looks like it's all hand chiseled. Remarkable work, makes my engraved Belgiums look like they were done with a claw hammer.

Ok, but for that price I want matching carvings on the chokes and the barrel interior.

Can he do buckshot too?

Jim mentioned Kusmit engraving above...Nick Kusmit was the famous Winchester engraver, I have seen folks asking $75,000 for his guns...notice, how Jim stated, the openness...I use the word simplicity...of the scroll and the stiffness of the dog...compare to the photos above....

That is not to say that Kusmit was not an artist in his own right, but compare the technique that Jim shows versus the well known vintage engraver.
