How many 30rd AR magazines exist?
It must be in the high millions, if not tens of millions. From old surplus GI to modern PMAGs. Has a rigorous estimate been attempted?

Thirty round mags are like the perverbial fruit cake that keeps getting passed around on and on. There are actually only 728.

During a Senate hearing if I remember correctly the estimate of at least 40,000,000 was mentioned.

Yes, and that doesn't even take into account 40 round AR magazines, 50 round AR drums 90 round AR drums, 100 round AR drums or 120 round AR drums, or beer cans with springs.
And, let's not start with Mini-14 magazines............... |

Probably about 20% of the number of 30-round AK mags.

Holy heck. This is like one of those supermarket contest where you guess how many gumballs are in the huge jar. It's probably in the tens and tens of millions. It wouldn't surprise me if it was 100 mil.

Why do you need to know? What does it matter, and really who could answer that, God?

Each AR usually comes with 1-2, every shooter I know has at least a half-dozen, and I have known a shooter with 200+.
Lots. Lots and lots.

Let me count my stash and multiply by two. That should be close to the worldwide total in circulation. This will take a little while....
