Need opinions on a brass catcher

I want a brass catcher for my 1911's. Does anybody have any experience with them?

They are a wee bit pricey, but take a look at: http://www.cmmshootingsports.com I, and several of the folks I shooot Bullseye league with have them and they are top notch.

Website for CMM appears to be down. But I heartily recommend their brass catcher. My recovery rates for my 1911 are consistently 98+%. And they are adjustable to a degree that you should be able to maintain your normal grip and stance. Well worth the $$$.

Use a homegrown cobbled up catcher myself; camera tripod, nylon laundry sack, wood stick and clamps. Takes a little tinkering to set up, but works great.

gotta love the do it yourselfer....I try to make anything work...I seen one guy holding a butter fly net while the other done the shooting..

My impression is two things judging by the pictures:

1) it seems like it would be a little distracting having that "Object" right above my site picture. It seems like a fabric a little more "See through" would be less distracting.

2)$80 seems a little pricey for it to take off in this the market.

3)opinions are like.........

I have a BUBCA and have used it just a couple of times (only had it a short time). It works fairly well and I'm popular with the folks on my right. I have had to add a couple of boxes of ammo (for weight) when the wind blows. It does work fairly well and catches about 80% of everything without thinking too much about it. If I spend some time and place it well it catches almost everything.

It takes about two minutes to set up and about a minute to take down. So not too bad and works with everything. It even does fairly well with my Mini 30, which will throw brass about 30 feet.

Made my own.

I use it mainly for bench testing but height can be made for standup use as well.

Some basic PVC pipe and a clear shower curtain next to you works easy and does not interfere with you shooting - the clear curtain allows for visual range safety in both directions

Tex S , do you shoot at the same place most of the time ? If so it really wouldn't take much to make something close to CherokeeT's gizmo... be it bigger or smaller. Get some Hardware cloth ( the big window screen looking stuff in CherokeeT's photo ) comes in 36" wide rolls at Home Depot , attach it to some pounded into the ground angled 2x4s, curl up the edge to help collect the brass... you get the picture. That or a larger Heavy Duty plastic tarp laid on the ground. And you stand off to the left edge.
