A really big gun

The wall gun, used to defend forts in the 1700s.
It's either a 70 pound, 94 caliber flintlock musket, or a really big shotgun.
This one in the video is from reconstructed Fort Loudoun, Tn, sw of Knoxville.

There's an impressive number of reconstructed forts from the 1700s and 1800s, in many US states.
Anyone else like to roam around them?
Anyone know who might have made this huge gun?

I've been wanting to build one. Rappahannock Forge (near Fredericksburg, VA) built about six rifled one during the Revolution. One is at the West Point Army Museum.

and in that book, some watermen where using a "Punt Gun" named, "The Twombley."

These were essentially huge shotguns used for the commercial harvest (illegal commercial harvest) of water foul.

I was aware of them before reading the book but Michener paints a nice mental picture.

Did the book explain why it was called a "Punt Gun".. When I see them I see a cannon...

The small shallow boats they used the gun in were called "Punts".

They were not illegal during the heyday of the market hunters.

Only when there were regulatory attempts made were they declared illegal.

i know of a couple folks who have built wall guns . you used to be able to get the parts through TRS but it was sometimes a long wait .

i saw the gun in person right after he finished it . Pete took it up to the Monroe show in Monroe washington . amazing gun for sure
