Load data needed for 30 cal 162gr mil-surp
I'm not sure where to start on this bullet . I'm loading for a 308 and the bullet has a barring suffice of about .8" but my 175gr smk have a barring suffice of around .5" . So I have a lighter bullet with 50% more drag on it as it goes through the barrel . I really don't know where to start . powder ? I have IMR 4895, 4064 , 4350 / 2000-MR .
Any help or questions please post Thanks Metal

The old M2AP 30-06 load was 55gr of WC852.
Folks across the internet have mentioned working up to 41.5gr of IMR 4895, 42gr of Varget, and 39gr of H322 for using those AP bullets in 308. Personally, if it were me I would look at the 168gr load data and use that for the starting charge. No reports of excess pressure with starting charges, although plenty of reports of low velocity using the M2AP bullets. The real question, is this going to go through, and ONLY through your bolt rifles? If the answer is "yes" then you can ignore the port pressure problem for gas guns. I personally recommend starting with IMR4064 and Power Pro 2000-MR, and working up from the starting charge. I'd stop no less than a half grain from max, and start looking real careful for signs of pressure right around the 42gr charge mark. Alliant lists 48.5gr of 2000-MR as max charge with the 168gr HPBT. Hodgdon lists 45.0gr compressed as max charge with the 168gr HPBT, with a starting charge of 43.0 gr. Personally I think powder companies are sometimes a might generous with their max charges, and bullet companies a tad conservative, but I think that 40.0 gr should be a safe starting point for either powder. Good luck, hope this helps, and I hope those M2AP bullets you have shoot as tight as their reputation. Jimro
