LR308 grip install

I'm installing a DPMS (with palm shelf) on my LR308 (Iron Ridge lower).
When I sit the grip flush to the receiver the safety locks up.
DPMS said to use extra washers so that the mounting bolt doesn't push too far into the receiver.
Trouble is even without the bolt when the grip is flush the safety still locks up.
Do I have to do something to the small springs on the right side of the receiver?
I've been putting the extra washers on the inside of the grip.
Thanks

The safety detent spring is probably too long or the spring hole in the top of the grip is too shallow. This causes the spring coils to compress until they are solid, locking the safety in place.

The washers are to keep a too long grip screw from protruding into the interior of the receiver and interfering with the trigger.

Thanks.
The trigger was still functioning even with the bolt in all the way without the extra washers. But will watch that.
Will slowly deepen the hole in the grip to ease the pressure on the spring.
