...Fitz is comin' for ya!
Finally got my small game license yesterday. Coyotes and prairie rats are year-round no-limit here (I *really* like Colorado sometimes), and my AR is dialed in for Hornady molys, 1" @ 100m. Only question I have now is... what do I do with the mangy critters once I've got 'em? |

One you harvest these varments, the best thing to do with them is to enable them to become fertilizer or feed them to other animals in the area. I usually acheive this most effeciently by leaving them where they lay. Another good strategy is if you are hunting larger game on private land, haul all of your coyotes around in the back of the vehicle (this is where it pays to have a pick up) and when you run into the land owner, show them your bountiful harvest. They will usually be more willing to let you back out there again if that is why they let you on their land. Ranchers tend to dislike coyotes.

There are a couple of neat things you can do with 'yotes. Mounting one is always interesting (tends to make your pets nervous). There is a place out west somewhere that has flesh eating beetles that for a reasonable charge will clean the skull. (I'll post the url if you'd like) Having the hides tanned is also kind of cool.
Prarie Dogs are another story. Leave'em for other critters to enjoy. Giz PS - you could eat a few if you'd like. One of my friends had an employee that loved 'yotes. Your cats may appreciate prarie dog on the half shell. Mine used to get silly when I would clean deer in the back yard. |

I ain't coming within 50 yards of dead prairie dawgs. Plague scares the hell outta me.
As far as mounting yodelers... that would actually be kinda cool, and we have no lack of taxidermists here. Wouldn't make the kitties nervous, though, at least not the one who used to whomp on German Shepherds for sport. Unfortunately I have *no* spare room in my cottage, and the landlord might have issues with stuffed yotes flanking my door.  Tanned hides on the wall and skulls on the bookshelves, though... I could get into that. |

Yes, we have a stuffed coyote. My dad planned on using it when coyote calling to see if we could lure in some coyotes. I don't know if he ever tried it or not. I have a feeling it just became something he didn't want to carry out to the call with him. Now the stuffed Coyote stands guard over the RL 550B in the reloading room. I think he deserves a name. I am counting on all of you to recommend a name and we will name him. Dillon would be my first choice. Dillon Dog!

Sounds like a plan to me, Rob. Oh yeah, you haven't seen my AR with the red dot, and Morgan fingered out what was wrong with his, so we're 100%.
The land I've been looking at is right on the way to Cactus Flats, by the Brush Hollow Reservoir. Spozed to be literally crawling with coyote. |
