Side by side
Who makes a double barell shotgun that won't cost that much? Might look into doing a short barell project so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg. Maybe $200 or less? Is this do able or not?
Thanks, Cole |

Went looking for side by sides the other day. Knew O/Us were pricey but couldn't believe how high side by sides had become. Even used you may have a bit of trouble finding one at $200. Savage used to make a cheap model as did Rossi. May be able to pick up a cheap one used. Norinco's go in the $200-300 range new. Stevens has a new Model (512 Gold wing) Over and Under that's pretty nice in the $500-600 range.

SXS's require a lot of regulating, (on the expensive ones) to get the barrels properly aligned. If you're just looking for something for CASS or similar, a used rossi or stoeger might something to look at

Under $2K there isn't an over under or a SXS that's worth having, in my view ..... but if you're looking to chop off the barrels and make it into a coach gun .....you need to go to your local pawn shop / gun shop that takes a lot of low end trade ins and see what is laying around. Under $500 you'll be lucky to find anything and nothing of quality - sorry.
Go to any decent gun store - look at the offerings from Browning and Beretta - kind of the consensus entry level over unders and you won't see anything new under $ 1,750 and most of them are $ 2,000 - $ 3,000. Browning and Beretta give you a lot of gun for your money / but I certainly recommend chopping the barrels off and making them into a coach gun either. If you're looking for something tactical - look over the pump guns. There are a lot of options out there under $ 500. |

I didn't want to spend that much on a shotgun. Just wanted something to shoot at the range or use for HD. I have multiple 870's and an 1100. I have been in a SBR or SBS mood lately and have been shortening things. I have gotten pretty good at the Form 1's. Just have always wanted a sawed off shotgun but obviously do not want to chop up an expensive gun. Still waiting on my paperwork for my GSG-5 to come in and contemplating another project.

There's plenty of Stevens 311's around for around 300 or so. Gonna be hard to find a good double for 200.

Agree on the Stevens 311. I have one for HD -used off gunbroker just for kicks. Also, Baikal - Russia ( some are branded Remington Spartan ) , have lower cost guns. I have one of there 28 gauges and it's a lot of fun. But as posted above no where near the high quality of the fine crafted shotguns , but they work. best of luck.
