WD 40 In A Gun Forum?

Gentlemen,

I’m surprised to see anyone even mention WD 40 in a firearms forum. I’ll never forget the beating I took when a gunsmith saw the spray can in my range bag.

I had a very hard time believing the gunsmith’s hair raising stories about the buildup caused by WD 40, until I broke down the bolt of an old 1903. I had cleaned the gun with WD 40 for many years and sure enough the firing pin had a significant build up of crud that was so hard, I couldn’t get it off with a wire brush.

WD 40 is great for door hinges and fishing reels, but not guns.
