Looking to get started
I am in southeast Virginia and I am looking to shoot competitively. Well, I doubt I will be too competitive but I am looking forward to the competition. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Pick one
Check out this thread at The High Road site. It may help you pick a sport, then you can find where.

Most of the major sports have links where you can view affiliated clubs.
IDPA IPSC/USPSA Single Action Shooting Society (Cowboy Action) If you're interested in bullseye or other pistol sports, check out NSSF's listing of ranges in your area, and then call that range to see if they have the game you're looking for. Hope this helps!

Comp.
Gunny: Look around as suggested. The type of competition that you decide on will influence the firearms that you need. Or....the firearms that you have may influence the competitions that you enter.
For a 2700 Bullseye (also called "conventional pistol") match, you'd need two guns at least, a .22 and a .45. There are three 90 shot sub-matches in the 2700 - a .22 match, a centerfire match, a .45 match. Many shooters use the .45 for both of the latter matches. Pete

Don't know what kind of competive shooting you are talking about, but do a google on the VA Rifle and Pistol Assn., contact them and see what they have in your area, then go from there.
