22-250 powder ?
what powders for the 22-250 will mostly fill the case ? I have been useing BLC2, I havent checked yet... but I think I would be able to get a double charge and I would like to just eliminate the possibility and goto a differnt powder. any recomendations?
thanks. jim

Jim, I've had good results using H380, with 52 gr Berger bullets. It's gives good accuracy and runs through a measure very well. In the past, I've used IMR 4320, the old stand-by for the 22-250, as well as 4350. Varget is on my list to try next.

I am starting my 22-250 loads using Varget. Lots of varmint hunters I know are using it, along with the H380 that was already mentioned.

22-250 powder
In my Rem. VLS (1:14 twist) with 55gr bullets, my best loads are with H380 with IMR 4895 right behind it.

.22-250 will not hold a double charge of Ball C2. It will hold an overload.
If you are that nervous about it, load 4350, a case full is a fine load. |

I'm in process of breaking in a new bbl and fire forming new brass. Since it's so cheap, I'm using 2230-C with 55 gr Dogtown bullets and it's doing a nice job. btw, any y'all tried Nosler brass? Wow. A bit pricey, but..., wow. For those who are not familiar with 2230-C, the label says its a surplus military ball slower than 2230. That puts it around 748 and maybe BL-C2. $65 from Powder Valley (nice people). sundog

Varget is good, I have also used H380 and 4350, but the Varget is like they say less sensitive to temperatures so a winter load works in summer and viceversa. I use the Hornady 55gr Vmax with 36.5 grs varget, very accurate and kills out to 300yds+ no problem. With the extra case capacity of the 22-250 you better go for the heavier bullet, bucks the wind better and more retained energy at long range, velocity starts to matter much less than bullet weight when you get past 150 yds.

I have tried about every powder you can use for a 22-250 and I finally settled on one that I don't see used that often, but I think as more people try it that will change.
I urge everyone to try some Reloader 10x. It gets good velocity, 20fps average standard FPS deviation, and not temp sensative as far as I can tell. In my CZ I load 52gr Sierra MK 31.5gr Reloader 10x Norma Brass Fed GM210M 2.40 O.A.L It shoots like a champ in my gun. |

Lots of people have had sucess with H380. I although never did. I do like the way it meters quite a bit.
I think you will find most people had the best luck with: Varget IMG4064 H380 IMR4831 I had no such luck with these powders, I tried Reloader 10x and have never looked back. I urge anyone to take the pepsi challenge with this powder. I love it. |

VV N-150 and AA 4064 fill the case completely, and burn 100% per Quickload. They also shoot one hole groups from my Savage with 55gr. NBT's. 36-37 grains with any primer does the trick.
4350 is way too slow. All others have inferior load densities. |
