Barrel Pitting?
I have definitely gotten AR fever - I want one!
I had a look at one the other day that seemed pretty reasonably priced, but when I looked down the barrel, it didn't look as shiny as I was thinking it should. Toward the muzzle at least, there seemed to be some speckling? I really couldn't tell what it was. I shot it, seemed accurate enough, to nail a 20oz bottle at 100 feet or so, that is. So, how would one recognize barrel pitting? Can it be fixed?

Usually a regular "Joe" like you and I would go to the Smith and get him to borescope this barrel..
And if there are pits in it, keep shooting it, it really doesn't matter that much in a hunter/plinker rifle anyway.

I know the barrel was clean, because I had just finished scrubbing it myself. But the "specks" were still pretty apparent. The rifle does do a lot of sitting around with it's current owner and doesn't get fired much.

Are the spots about where the gas block sits on the barrel?

Not desirable, but a little pitting won't matter.

Could be carbon, powder fouling, I had some build up in an ar right at the gas block, it was a pain to scrub out, is your bore chrome lined?
