Newbie BP Question
Have an interest in Civil War reenacting.
Just starting to gear up, which as we all know, is not a cheap undertaking. However, I have recently come across a BP revolver (reproduction) short barrel (Sheriff model) .44 Caliber? The gun looks like it is new out of the box. NO marks or scratches. Having read thru the various threads, I can see a mark that reads (AD) If i am correct this mark would give it a Mfg. date of 1978?? The listed price for this item is $138.99. I think this is a good deal in the making, what say you all?? |

Sounds like a good deal. Is it:
Brass or steel framed? An Army (round barrel) or Navy (octagonal barrel)? Uberti, Pietta, ASM, ASP, or Euroarms? Round or square backed trigger guard? Brass, steel or silver plated BS/TG?

As Ronald Reagan always said......"Well"
Tom,
First of all, Welcome to the forum. I would add to Fingers' questions: Is the pistol a faithful reproduction of a period piece that one might find in the hands of the character(s) you are intending to model? I know that, to some reenacters accuracy in the accutrements is a paramont importance.

I would mostly be concerned about whether the maker was Armi San Marco that went out of business and if parts are readily available for it or not.

Right,
There are several questions about this pistol as Fingers noted. Tom, What you want to do is get hold of the folk who run the reenactment group you will be joining to verify how particular they are about the stuff you bring to the party. I have had two exposures to reenactment of civil war units and the most notible is a conversation that I had with a former shipmate who was an avid reenactor of a Virgina regiment. I seem to remember they were not strict during the meetings but in the outings they applied strict standards having researched the weapons that were carried (officially) by the original members of the regiment. The pistol you described is probably worth the price but it may not fit in unit rules. Tnx,
