.223 cal 55 gr Hornady Vmax load data needed
I plan on working up loads for 55 gr Vmax using Winchester 748 powder. I have a pile of reloading books, but Hornady is not one of them. Does anyone have a reference for starting and max loads?

From the book of Hornady, 7th edition.
55 gr v max using w 748 minimum load 22.7 gr for 2800 fps 23.7 gr for 2900 fps 24.6 gr for 3000 fps max load 25.5 gr for 3100 fps I shoot the same bullet but I use H335 at 22.7 gr and get superb accuracy. |

Thank you er775, I appreciate the information.
Interesting how the range is much less than that for a FMJ. |

I use H-335 as well. I use the Nostler guide's accuracy load of 25.0 grains with a standard Small Rifle Primer. They shoot way better than I can milk them for.

Interesting how Hodgdon's and Hornady's load data for the same powder, weight bullet and OAL is so different. I have always used 25.0 grains of H-335 for the V-Max with excelent results and no over-pressure in an AR. It is pretty much my standard load.
Now the question is whom do we believe, Hodgdon or Hornady?? Jim

Hornady #9 min load for Win 748 is 22.7, max (in red) is 26.4 grains.
Thommo, try ADI's website. Failing that, I think benchmark 2 is what the Yanks just call Benchmark, in which case 21.6 grains is starting and 24.5 grains is max per Hornady, but confirm that for yourself at the ADI site before loading anything up. |

I load 25 grs of 748 under a 55 gr zmax. Not sure just how accurate it is but it cycles my ar and hit center mass at 100 yards with iron sights.
