Kel Tec PMR30

Have you guys seen this gun yet?.22WMR and a 30 rd mag!

Looks like it would be a lot of fun at the range. I think they might have been inspired by the FN five seven though, just a hunch.

Yep.

The first release was quite problematic. I understand the newer ones Kel Tec has fixed most of the issues with them.

If they were around $300 or so, I'd probably be interested, but given the supply vs demand, I see them going for upwards of $500-$600.... no way at that price.

Yes, it would have about the same application as a five-seven for me - being a general plinker. If I could find one for cheap, I'd probably bite just for novelty.

I've got one and love it. I think I paid $475 before things went really nuts. It's been reliable and accurate for all the ammo I've thrown at it. Probably about 1200 rounds now. One great advantage these days is while .22lr is scarce the magnum seems easy to come by.

I own the five seven as well and I'd say they are pretty different firearms. Just my .02

The five seven seems like a pretty sweet gun/caliber. 3x the knockdown power, at 2-3x the price though.

I have one. Paid $300 used, which was probably about what it is worth. At first it jammed on everything, I had to send it back to Kel Tec, they replaced the barrel and polished the guts a little. Super light trigger, and a HUGE bang and fireball when it goes off. Fairly accurate. The trick is loading the magazines. Yes, the "hold 30" but I have never been able to 1) get one that full or 2) reliably get a full magazine to feed all 30 rounds. I usually load to 10 rounds and go from there.

I passed one up at a pawn shop once for $900... If I ever see one south of $500 I'd be tempted to pick it up.

Always wanted one but Ct changed its laws to 10 rounds mags, the PMR30 would be wasting away on the safe along with my XDm and its 19 round mags.

I don't really get the PMR-30 beyond a range toy. What do I need 30 rounds of .22WMR for other than the joy of shooting 30 rounds really fast? (which is a totally legit reason to buy a gun, don't get me wrong) It's not good for defense because the .22 mag just doesn't have the punch. Sure 30 rounds will stop most threats but no one is going to have time to fire 30 rounds. You're probably only going to get off 3 or 4 shots so might as well go with something a lot more effective. Might be good for population control of nuisance or invasive species of smaller animals I suppose. Or it could just be fun. Perfectly good reason to own anything.

@bigghoss,
I'd have to agree. Its very light for carrying, but also rather long since the action has to travel so far the get those long shells in and out . So I can't really see many people carrying it.
Just a fun range gun and maybe running shots at rabbits, like a whole herd of rabbits lol.

I had planned to get one when they first came out, but street prices were astronomical. I finally bit the bullet and paid $200 over msrp to get one a few months ago. Rather to my surprise it has proven 100% reliable with CCI 40 grain ammo. Accuracy is ok for plinking or jack rabbits (about 3" at 50 ft). Extremely light, has very good sights and trigger. The mags break in if you load them to capacity and let the mag sit a few days. You may have to work up from 20 or 25 rounds. Overall, it is a fun and handy pistol. I certainly paid too much, but after waiting three years to get one at msrp, I just had to take the plunge.

I don't feel this gun or see a rational need to own one myself.

The last one I saw was going for a fortune. I'd like to have a .22 mag but in a revolver with interchangeable .22 LR cylinders please.

Hey Kel-tec, when are you going to try to do a medium to large sized pistol in 9mm, .40, or .45?

The PMR 30 was not just designed to be a range gun. Hiking was mentioned in one of the early ads. The light weight of the gun makes it easy to carry.
I bought mine right after they came out, for LESS than suggested retail.
While the WRM is basically a rifle cartridge, you get a lot more oomph than a .22LR in the 4" barrel.

Why would Keltec want to make a full-sized gun? They basically started the subcompact market-it's what they do best.

The RMR-30 carbine looks sweet as well. Kind of funny how the PMR-30 is (sort of) a rip-off of an FN five seven and the RMR-30 is (sort of) a rip-off of a H&K MP7. Both are near impossible to find, and likely will be for a while. It's a bit strange isn't it? You don't see many rim fire 'MAGNUM' pistols and carbines, yet they seem to be in fairly high demand, and no one wants to manufacture them. Even Ruger discontinued the 10/22 magnum

Meanwhile, Kel-tec can't pump out enough PMR's to meet demand, and the same thing is going to happen once the RMR-30 is available.

The KelTec .22 magnum guns are not a "rip off" of anything. They are an offshoot of the earlier Grendel P30 .22 magnum pistols and carbines- made long before the FN FiveSeven was thought about!

I just saw a lot of similarities cosmetically. The polymer over the slide is the obvious one that comes to mind. Just seemed as though the FN was the "inspiration" for the look of the gun.

I was able to get a PMR30 for under $400. I expected to have cycleing issues that I'd have to put-up-with... But mine works 99%. As long as you're careful to load them properly. Mine doesn't like Bitteroot Valley ammo, but it seems to eat anything else. The mags seem to work better after a few hundered rounds. I love haveing 30rds that fit in the handle. You have to load them up and leave them full for a while. The 2 mags I bought last, are still stiff but the 4 older one load-up much easier. Now I'm waiting for the RMR to come out. I NEED one to go with my PMR!!!

yep my LGS had them in stock just 2 weeks ago when i walked in for $419. there were several that were fde as well. wasn't in the market for one and so i picked up some ammo and left. went about my day finishing errands and thought about how much i didn't need it but how much fun it would be at the range. now i usually don't buy a gun just for the sake of going to the range. all my guns are specifically for something. no safe queens here. 6 hours later i went back w/cash in hand since my LGS gives a 3% discount if u pay with cash. and all 8 were sold

Oh, I've read about them on forums like this. Some guys even post what they say are photos of this thing. I even put my name on the waiting list from a dealer. Said he'd call me when one was available. That was two years ago. I'm still waiting for that call.

I wanted one of these since the day they came out. I only saw one for the first time at a gun show a month ago. When I commented on the difficultly to even see one on the keltec facebook page they said every gun shop I've been to was worthless and the owners are screwing me. I'm no longer interested in any keltec product.
