Paranoia Spooky house incedent
Read the following and think about this one. Here is another Rambo wannabe. In another statement he said. I did not know what weapons they had or thier intentions. Did he dial 911??? NO he did not. was what he girls did smart? no, should he have fired NOT A CHANCE IN HELL. I hope he goes to jail for a long time. Who would fire with out knowing what was going on?? they were not even on his property much less posing a threat!!! paranoid Rambo wannabe's like this are what i worry about when it comes to CCW rights. Some idiot is going to level red or purple or what ever and some people are going to die and then its all over for us. Well he got his wish to shoot some one i hope he is happy in jail.
The story began at 10 p.m. on Aug. 22, 2006, when Barezinsky and two other girls sneaked a few feet onto Davis' property - lighting the way with their cell phones - to scare themselves because they thought the house was spooky. They jumped in the car after their friend honked. What they thought were firecrackers as they drove off were shots from a rifle Davis, then 40, said he had purchased to scare away frequent prowlers. A bullet struck Barezinsky, then 17, in the shoulder and head. Her left arm and leg were paralyzed.

This sucks. Anti's will use this one for sure. Sarah Brady will be sending this girl a Christmas card...
Feel really bad for the girl, and hope this guy does life for Attempted 1st Degree.

Deadly force to "scare" prowlers. Duh. What a jackass.

He's already been sentenced. He got 19 years and he well should have.
Here's his RAMBO statement from jail: "Davis said in jailhouse interviews that he did not intend to hurt anyone. He eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault to avoid a drawn-out probe into his personal life. "I didn't know what their weaponry was, what their intentions were," he said from jail the week of the shooting. "In a situation like that, you assume the worst-case scenario if you're going to protect your family from a possible home invasion and murder." Sad thing is this sounds just like some guys I have heard post on gun sites |

I agree. It is asshats like that guy that give the rest of us a bad name. I think there should have been a drawn-out probe into the guy's personal life. Sounds like he had a few more issues than just the occasional tresspasser. Is there a more detailed account, or is the OP's post the whole story?

When I was young and dumn a couple friends and I went to tp a guy's house on holloween night.
We saw a light come on inside the house and we jumped into the car and started to drive off, the home owner fired a rifle at us striking the car. No one was hit. That guy was taken to jail and his rifle taken from him for good. My friends and I had to pay for every roll that was used on the guy's yard and clean it for him. Theres no reason to shoot at a car driving away from your house when you are not being threatened

This guy was far, far, far, from paranoid, he was completely nuts. A guy like this is not only bad for gun owners, but for society at large. Jail is not enough punishment. Perhaps the same degree of injury he inflicted on that girl?

I believe in the newspaper account, his weapon was a .22 semi auto.
In defense of the girls, . . . spot on that they were just being kids, . . . being stupid, . . . doing things grown up adults won't do. But at the same time, they more than likely (knowing the area it happened in) were a bunch of silver spooned brats who generally get what they want, . . . or blackmail mommy or daddy into getting it for them. Kinda like the Paris Hilton and friends bunch out in Hollywood. While they were all "innocent" of any criminal activity, . . . at the same time, . . . they were the latest and last of a long line of folks who had badgered and bullied they guy for what the paper said was decades. The whole thing speaks to a full breakdown of accountablity by each person for what he/she was doing at the time. Say it any way you want, . . . each of us is personally accountable to ourselves to be where we should be and doing what we should be doing, . . . in order NOT to become one of the participants in this type of tragedy. May God bless, Dwight

The world is filled with nut jobs like this guy. The very reason I carry. The hard part is going to be keeping those who don't understand this reality, from taking my guns.
He got what he deserves since we can't damage his spine making his arm and leg useless. |

With all the media fear mongering, we'll prolly see more nut jobs over react in the future. Like the two drinkin cokes in the other thread who drew down on a guy coming in to ask for directions...

Let me guess: this doofuss espoused the grand old saying that it is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6. Of course, he probably saved himself and his mother from being attacked by those terrible cheerleaders.
He didn't intend to hurt anyone, huh? Funny thing about how those bullets have a nasty habit of hurting what they hit. What an idiot. |

That is a very sad story! My heart goes out to Rachel Barezinsky. I have to wonder how many of us did things when we were teenagers that someone might have shot us for? (I know I did!)
Apparently my opinion is in the minority; however, I am inclined to believe that all firearm owners, everywhere, are well-served by this peculiar man with a gun being severely punished. I just wish something could be done for the unfortunate young girl to whom - when you stop to think about it - Allen Davis gave much more than a mere 19 year sentence. (In spite of what Davis said at his sentencing, of course, he shot-to-kill. This man wouldn't even take responsibility for his true actions.)

He said perhaps...This type of sentiment is easy to understand if you imagine how YOU would feel if it was your daughter. It's called rightious indignation and highly appropriate as far as sentiment goes.

Sad to say but i think there are alot of nut jobs that post here with thier condition orange and green and what ever. one day they will shoot a few kids who are looking for directions or whatever and then we have more ammo for the anti's. Many of them should NOT have a CCW. they are paranoid Rambo wannabe's.

Yeah, just look at Great Britain: Two homicidal lunatics were used as, 'typical examples' for the antis to finally succeed in disarming an entire nation!
(And we, all, know how much safer and better off British families are today as a result.) Quote:

When you delve into this story a bit, it turns out that there's some evidence that the shooter had been firing at people for a while. Neighbor's reported having heard 'fire crackers' exploding on the propery well before the shooting. The family also has a history of serious mental instability (e.g. living with a dead relative), but were estranged from the local police due to some disagreement. They also seem to have been targets for harassment by local kids. So this incident may have been brewing for a long while.
This may be why you haven't heard much from anti-gun groups. When you look at some of the surrounding facts, it's difficult to argue that his character and behavior is typical of gun owners. |

If we started punishing criminals more harshly, instead of setting them up with better food/housing/opportunities/healthcare than most had on the street, maybe, just maybe, they would think twice before doing something like this again. My grandfather often talked about spending 2 years in prison for hitting a guy who was beating on some woman. Turns out it was an off duty leo and his girlfriend fighting, so he was screwed. He got 2 years. It was at an old style prison in the 30's in arizona. They worked like slaves, doing heavy manual labor, under grueling conditions, barely fed, and no medical to speak of, not to mention just enough food and water to keep you alive, chained together, from the crack of dawn until dark. We won't even MENTION the daily beatings from prison staff. Now, as he looked back on that experience as a young man, it was so terrible, that he made sure he went out of his way to never break the law the rest of his days, in any way, for fear of going back to such a place as that. So, NO...his prison sentence does in no way equate to what he did to that girl. If it were my daughter, prison would be his only safe haven. |
